7 When you pray, dont babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. 8 Dont be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! 9 Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, --New Living Translation 7And when you pray, do not heap up phrases (multiply words, repeating the same ones over and over) as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard for their much speaking. [I Kings 18:25-29.] 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. 9Pray, therefore, like this: 15But if you do not forgive others their trespasses [their [j]reckless and willful sins, [k]leaving them, letting them go, and [l]giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses. --Amplified Pray with Simplicity 5"And when you come before God, don't turn that into a theatrical production either. All these people making a regular show out of their prayers, hoping for stardom! Do you think God sits in a box seat? 6"Here's what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace. 7-13"The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They're full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don't fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this: 16-18"When you practice some appetite-denying discipline to better concentrate on God, don't make a production out of it. It might turn you into a small-time celebrity but it won't make you a saint. If you 'go into training' inwardly, act normal outwardly. Shampoo and comb your hair, brush your teeth, wash your face. God doesn't require attention-getting devices. He won't overlook what you are doing; he'll reward you well. |

There are other interpretations of the verses that deal with the keys of heaven and the rock on which Christ’s church is built. Those verses do not have to be interpreted to mean only what the Catholic church says they mean.
That being the case, I do not recognize the Catholic Church’s claim of having the only correct interpretation of those verses, or of their claim that it makes them the only true church, or that it gives them spiritual authority over everyone on the planet.
I do not recognize as legitimate their claim of spiritual authority over me, or any pronouncements they make about my spiritual state or eternal destiny.
Salvation is through Christ alone, not any one denomination. God tells us all we need to know in Scripture and it is not all that hard to understand, not nearly as hard as the Catholic Church would have us believe.
He had close friends as any human does. Training them and preparing them for the purpose of spreading the Gospel is not establishing a hierarchy.
But hey, have a great time with the "church of the we interpret the Bible to fit your beliefs".
Nope, I fit my beliefs to follow the Bible, which is really not that hard to understand.
You know the ones that decided they didn't like the "rules" about no married clergy, so the changed it.
Peter was married. Many of the other disciples and apostles were married. There is no requirement given anywhere in Scripture that demands that those in positions of spiritual authority be single or celibate if married.
Then they didn't like the rules about no women in the clergy, so they changed it. Then they decided that it was wrong that non-celibate homosexuals should be excluded from the clergy, so they changed that. There new "rule" they don't like is the one about marriage being between a man and a woman, but thanks to YOPIOS they are changing that one too.
Denominations and congregations which have gone that far have rejected all of any authority of Scripture. They are the ones who don't accept the Deity of Christ either. Or the virgin birth. Or the resurrection. Or any of the other critical theology about Christ or God.
It's not a matter of personal interpretation of Scripture, with them it's a matter of wholesale rejection of Scripture.
The reformation was based on the 5 solas ..all the churches that came directly out of the reformation were churches that were "calvinist"
There was a doctrinal split with some wanted to return to the more catholic view of free will . So yes Wag , the reformed get to say who is reformed just as the catholics get to say who is catholic.
I do enjoy your posts on these threads, you are one of the few who actually seems to consider what you are saying and doesn't either cut & paste from some online anti-Catholic clearinghouse or devolve into gibberish.
I enjoy you too Wag ... you should hang out a bit :)
Amen. Seems like Christianity 101.
In fact, it's Life 101 since the Second Commandment of God who created all things and in whose hands all things reside teaches us the same thing...
But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified" -- Daniel 5:22-23"And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;
I post your words; I comment on those words, according to the word of God; and you say I am bearing false witness.
Who's the belligerent here?
Likely?
No, I don't think so.
The more a person is taught the things of God by the word of God, the more a person is able to discern those genuine things of God from ersatz things of God, whether they be "physically tangible" idols or "intangible" idols.
In fact, one could make the argument that the more a person is attuned to the fact that human beings are predisposed to all sorts of idolatry and mischief and self-deceit, the more likely that person is to recognize idolatry in any form since it is all spawned by the same error -- service to someone other than the Triune God.
For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God" -- 1 Thessalonians 1:8-9"For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.
So Paul doesn't differentiate between idols of silver and gold and idols of our own makings, but he certainly does declare the singularity of whom we are to serve -- "the living and true God."
And none else.
From one of thousands of similar sites from Roman Catholics...
" O Lord of infinite goodness, by the miraculous making of this image of Mary Most Holy, Thou hast given us a powerful intercessor to whom we might have recourse with total confidence in her amiable protection in our necessity. Grant us the assistance that we are asking with fervor and confidence so that we might know, honor, and serve the Blessed Virgin, and so that by her intercession, we may achieve on this earth our sanctification and afterwards, be happy with her in Heaven. Amen."
Serve who???

One should give their all to God because He’s the only one who should get your all, as Jesus told us in the Gospels. The first and greatest commandment.
Matthew 22:37
Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
Mark 12:30
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’
Luke 10:27
He answered: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ ; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ “
That is most definitely praying TO her.
Some pretty much worship "the bible", "the church", various holy (sic) artifacts, various biblical people, even LUV.. some worship Love.. Many are into Christian Cargo Cultism(animism) of myriad types.. Christians seem to get obsessive.. Name a group.. some get obsessive, some don't.. even in the same group..
I have come to see Christianity as described in John ch 10.. with the sheep pens and Jesus calling them to come OUT.. The word church(Ekklesia) even means "called out ones".. My experience(with them) leads me see many christian groups as sheep, goat, vulture, lion, pig, platypus, ostrich, hyena, tape worm, wolf, even maggot pens.. and many more kinds of pens than that.. They all see themselves as best examples.. of something..
I guess we all see, what we see.. Some are harder (for me) to tolerate than others.. could be the same with them toward me.. Jesus never forbade sheep pens or any other kind of pen.. as far as I know.. He must have known this would happen.. Christians pretty much sort themselves into various groups and kinds of groups.. Could it be this is the way it is supposed to be?.. If so then God is a genius.. Creating humans to be a self sorting mechanism..
Whether jew or gentile, people sort themselves out.. Even atheists and agostics sort themselves out.. into category's.. We need to learn to tolerate each other, OR NOT.. Which ever choice you or I make there is a group for us some where.. Pure genius I would say.. AT some point what ever choice(s) we make we will have to live with.. maybe for eternity.... The flesh does not last forever..
Could be our spirits are being Graded..

Alex, I'll take Twighlight Zone episodes for $ 800.
1 Corinthians 12:12 The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. 13For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one bodywhether Jews or Greeks, slave or freeand we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
14Now the body is not made up of one part but of many. 15If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. 16And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. 17If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? 18But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 19If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
21The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” 22On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, 24while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it, 25so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. 26If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
27Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
Jesus did try to wean us of fleshly identity toward a spiritual one.. Which ever identity you identify with will determine what you may see in scripture.. AT least it did and does with me..
It doesn't. It's just typically an observed courtesy. I really didn't think about it for one, and the reply wasn't directed at the individual referred to with a seeming nickname. I saw it as an effort to pound the table out of disagreement with my reply, nothing more.
Cwazy
It clearly does for many people, more so than they realize.
then next time, remember to ping the table. Or you could pong it. then you’d have a ping pong table.
“verily verily I say unto thee.”
Were you able to find this?
"A wise man gets more use from his enemies than a fool from his friends."
If you read closely and follow teachings, then you can follow the switch back and forth from Peter specific, to disciple specific to believer general to world general.
