Who are the Catholics: The Orthodox or The Romanists, or both?
Me

Posted on 01/05/2010 9:46:47 PM PST by the_conscience

I just witnessed a couple of Orthodox posters get kicked off a "Catholic Caucus" thread. I thought, despite their differences, they had a mutual understanding that each sect was considered "Catholic". Are not the Orthodox considered Catholic? Why do the Romanists get to monopolize the term "Catholic"?

I consider myself to be Catholic being a part of the universal church of Christ. Why should one sect be able to use a universal concept to identify themselves in a caucus thread while other Christian denominations need to use specific qualifiers to identify themselves in a caucus thread?

As I said before, it would require a trip to Nicaragua for any further details on the image.

And again, it was the image itself and the title attached to it that troubled me for the same reason I bristle at images like these (Madonna and Santa:)

To me, such "art" is an insult to the body and blood of Christ.

I agree it’s highly insulting. Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing what the picture in Nicaragua actually shows and even less of an idea of what the original orientation was.

Indeed, dear brother in Christ! Hopefully some Freeper visiting Nicaragua, aware of this photographer's image and the title for it, will give us a thorough report with pictures. Until then, it simply is what it is.

I only stepped back into this fray because (a) I was mentioned by name and (b) the photographer's website has been canceled so if anyone wanted to see it for himself, he'd need to Google for it while the thumbprint was still there and the website still cached.

You should read some of the stuff on this website, they despise Calvinism:

Yes, and for a couple of reasons.

Madonna? Just plain heresy. But what do you expect from a pagan.

The Santa Cross? Clearly put up by some sort of Christian as a statement on society.
Shame on them! The ends don't always justify the means. Heresy is heresy!!, !

Thanks for posting that Sister.

Wow, what a beautiful cross. Wish I had one. I think it’s neat that the artist showed Mary and John, who were at the foot of the cross, on the crossbeam so they could actually be seen. Neat idea.

I have already set a clear predicate that establishes only one question.

Your question is flatly incorrect. God's will is for us to have free will. God's will is for us to have choice. Our freedom to choose is Gods will. Full Stop.

The Centrepiece during the mass IS Christ in the form of the Eucharist. Catholics worship Mary as much as you Presbyterians worship Calvin and Machen. The way you deny your worship of Calvin and Machen is hilarious

No, YOU didn’t make such a claim. However others did. Your statement that you don’t like such depictions is a valid statement of belief. But conjecturing something else is, well, pure conjecture.

The way that Roman Catholics deny Mary Worship just cracks me up.

I'd say all Catholics deny Mary worship, not just those of Rome.

That's because the Catholic Church prohibits and condemns worship of anyone but the Triune God.

As for the position of Christ in that Church, you need to look at that table in the center, draped in white. THAT is where you'll find Christ during Mass.

Except ya'll will constantly bring Mary up during your worship, during your prayers. We rarely mention Calvin during worship, and then only to quote him. Ya'll worship Mary.

So now even mentioning the Mother of God is worship?

Uncanny.

The arguments presented by you and other Catholics continually introduce new terms and associations, i.e. ‘forcing.’ These new introductions change meanings and therefore the answers presented.

Honestly, when someone tries to put God in a box, and say this or that about what must or must not be true about Him, that person will always come up against contradictions. That is because God's ways are FAR above our ways. An ant has more chance of understanding human behavior than we do of understanding anything about God's will. What may look contradictory to an ant makes perfect sense to the human.

Any attempt to limit the discussion to artificial parameters of what God can or cannot do, wills or does not will, is evidence of the folly of extreme hubris.

Which is why your question reminds us of the question, "Is green up?"

The mass has actually no or very little mention of Mary, except in the Creed.

Advent and Marian feast days are exceptions.
