McClintock now has a clear field - - conservatives have one horse to ride!

With Simon out, there's only one conservative in the race -- - McClintock's 1) the most experienced; 2) the most knowledgeable; 3) the one with the most well-articulated vision; 4) the one with Reagan-like CONVICTIONS (not convenient "opinions" adopted yesterday -- and subject to change tomorrow; 5) the one who's from the MIDDLE CLASS so he KNOWS that TAXES HURT -- he feels it in his bones, not through a focus group -- so we can trust him to keep his word.

NOTE: LYN NOFZIGER HAS JUST ENDORSED MCCLINTOCK!

Are you saying if Arnold wins and imposes strong fiscal restraints on the liberal legislature, that wouldn't be a win for conservatives?

No.

He's discussing reality and you've gone into the weeds with a hypothetical.

I can see that McClintock is for cutting expenditures and taxes. What I don't see is how he is going to do it. Prop 187 is dead, and I see no evidence of a renewed effort on illegal immigration. Nor do I see much in his platform to entice any significant return of business. It is one thing to talk about cutting taxes and expenditures, but quite another to actually carry it out while the state is suffereing from a mass migration of illegals and your manufacturing base is on its way to China.

A true conservative would address the real underlying issues and leave the window dressing for later. The only thing I am interested in is how this guy plans to find 20-30 billion dollars to balance the budget.

ooooOOOOOOH!

The great scary boogeyman gambit.
Not working on me, sorry.

Dream up a more convincing approach to derail McClintock.

No one said he was the ideal conservative Republican candidate.

He does, however, at this time anyway, stand a better chance of defeating pro-abortion, pro-gun control, pro-tax and spend, pro-illegal immigration do away with the border democRAT candidate cruz bustamante.

Some, however, would rather vote for a candidate they KNOW can't win simply because he better represents conservative views.

That's unfortunate for California, but good for cruz.

Perhaps you forgot the most recent election where the conservative, Bill Simon, was beaten by the unpopular liberal, Gray Davis.

Perhaps you forgot recent elections when liberal, pro abortion Republicans -- Tom Campbell, Matt Fong and John Seymour -- got creamed by Democrats in statewide elections. This idea that it's social conservatism that has led to GOP defeats doesn't explain the defeats of socially liberal Republicans.

And you got your Ouija Board.... where?

A well informed voter base can make up their own minds given the facts, thank you.

His "reality" is purely hypothetical, which leads me to believe you have no clue what the word means.

Why does McClintock want to ruin his political career by running for Governor now? The worst thing that could happen to him is if he wins.

That all depends on what he does with the Gray Davis fiasco, the $50 billion one.

There is no deficit fairy, and that debt must be repaid.

And California could easily live through a 10% budget reduction indefinitely. Scary, huh?

I agree the illegal issue is the big issue that doesn't get talked about. But to bring business back to California reforming workers comp and reducting utility costs are huge issues.I have a little business with employees and my biggest complaint is workers comp. The amount I pay has gone up 225% in three years. That is total madness. The illegal issue is not what is driving businees away. It is worker comp, taxes, regulations, state income tax, and utility costs. If they don't get fixed some business will not come back. But I still think it is a great state to make money in.

Since it needs to be spelled out, CA is a moderate to liberal state. As evidence, I would cite the fact that

1. there are many more registered Democrats than registered Republicans.

2. There are a handful of Republicans in the State House and senate.

3. CA went overwhelmingly for Gore in the last Pres. election.

4. Gray Davis, a horrible governor, easily (yes easily) beat Bill Simon in the last election for Gubernor of CA.

I think it is safe to assume that this (CA) is a moderate to Liberal state.

Based on the evidence, it is quite obvious that a Conservative Republican has zero chance of being elected. The best that can be hoped for, at this stage, is to elect a moderate as Governor in the hope that this person will pull CA out of it's fiscal morass.

A "moderate" is a giant step to the right, considering the likes of Willie Brown, Gray Davis and Cruz Bustamante.

So, as I see it, we can do the following: We can keep bellowing about the "RINO" Schwartzenegger, refuse to vote for him because of our "principles", cast our vote for another "can't win" candidate OR we can decide that we need to win; that we will not, yet again, as a Party shoot ourselves in the foot.

Agree or disagree with Schwartzenegger, it has to be as plain as the nose on your face that he is the only hope that the GOP takes the Governorship in CA. McClintock, conservative though he may be, cannot and will not win.

We have been demonized way too effectively as that. We need a "star" to defeat the demogoguery of the Left, someone that transcends politics, like Fred Thompson and Ronald Reagan. (Yes, I know, Arnold is no Reagan, which is of course missing the point, again.)

Pete Wilson who slammed a Tax increase on this state, the likes we haven't seen before, but very likely may see again if the Lincoln Club and Ahnold supporters have their way.

In this free-for-all he will be lucky to get 10% because that is all the hard core conservatives the polls show Kalifornia as having.

What planet have you been on?

Only "hard-core" conservatives are concerned about runaway defit spending and a $60 billion debt?

*Compared* to the extreme leftist Davis, McClintok or Schwarzenegger would qualify to be members of the vast right wing conspiracy.

Either one would be *HUNDREDS* of times better for the great state of California, than the little communist Davis.

I would settle for either one! Would I like McClintok better? Yes. But again, if forced, settling for Schwarzenegger is many times better than Davis.

Between Schwarzenegger and Davis, is like comparing Bush to Barney Frank. There is no comparison.

This is the perfect opportunity for conservatives to vote for an "unelectable" conservative.

First this recall is BS, (Davis was elected and should serve out his term unless he is charges with a crime).

There is a good chance the recall will fail, so why not for once, let conservatives for for a conservative candidate? Why does the GOP always insist, particuarlly in this BS election, that conservatives for for aother RINO? If I lived in Calif. I'd vote conservative.

The next governor of California must either raise taxes or cut spending. He will have no choice. Wall Street will not loan California money to issue bonds, otherwise. It does not matter what the political persuasion of the winner is.

Whichever choice the new governor makes, he will be incredibly unpopular, and will be lucky to finish the remaining three years without recall. He will not be re-elected.

Who was the last Republican Governor of California (elected twice) and who is he supporting ?

Thanks for making my point - - - He's Pete Wilson, of course. The original TAXPAYER TERMINATOR. Raised California's taxes by a margin and percentage bigger than ANY STATE-LEVEL TAX INCREASE IN HISTORY!!! Also, a PRO-ABORTION FANATIC who went to the GOP national convention in 1996 and tried to upstage the platform committee by holding a press event demanding that the protection-of-unborn-life plank be removed! Talk about a divisive figure who doesn't care if he stirs contention and gives the media ammunition for their anti-GOP jihads! You're exactly right - - this tax-hiking, social RADICAL liberal (Wilson) has endorsed Arnold. Nough said.
