Why does McClintock want to ruin his political career by running for Governor now? The worst thing that could happen to him is if he wins.

That all depends on what he does with the Gray Davis fiasco, the $50 billion one.

There is no deficit fairy, and that debt must be repaid.

And California could easily live through a 10% budget reduction indefinitely. Scary, huh?

The next governor of California must either raise taxes or cut spending. He will have no choice. Wall Street will not loan California money to issue bonds, otherwise. It does not matter what the political persuasion of the winner is.

Whichever choice the new governor makes, he will be incredibly unpopular, and will be lucky to finish the remaining three years without recall. He will not be re-elected.
