The next governor of California must either raise taxes or cut spending. He will have no choice. Wall Street will not loan California money to issue bonds, otherwise. It does not matter what the political persuasion of the winner is.
Whichever choice the new governor makes, he will be incredibly unpopular, and will be lucky to finish the remaining three years without recall. He will not be re-elected.

I am convinced that McClintock is the "honest politician" who is willing to pay that price.
If he solves the current problem he has succeeded beyond the worst progressive nightmares.
If he also freezes state spending, he's my hero, no matter what else happens.
