A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

BillF was pleased when The Weekly Standard recently wrote that FReepers are “a fierce, warlike tribe from the Free Republic organization.” He says that it is about time that conservatives realize that loud, peaceful protests can get some in the biased mainstream media to admit that not all citizens favor the leftists’ approach to government.

Freeping Hillary
As I interviewed him for this profile, we had to stop so he could see the television news report of his Freep with the DC Chapter of Hillary Clinton’s booksigning in Northern Virginia. That was the Freep that led The Weekly Standard to describe Freepers as “a fierce, warlike tribe.”
On the theory that it’s simply impossible to hear too many bad things about Hillary, here’s some insight from BillF:
“One of the things that's always concerned me is that Hillary is playing the put-upon spouse, and the interviewers are all overlooking that she was a policy player. They're not questioning her as they would a policymaker.”
Good point! And a more elaborate demonstration of more serious scandals being largely overlooked due to the Clintons’ scandalous personal misconduct is made in As the World Squirms – the Bill & Hill Soap Opera that he first put online in 1999.
At the Hillary Freep, the 12 Freepers were joined by some sympathetic people who happened to be shopping near Hillary’s booksigning. One woman brought her two children over and had them hold up signs too. The Hillary supporters didn’t get violent. One guy who supported Hillary came out and yelled angrily at the Freepers: “Stupid people hate smart people!” BillF analyzes this statement: “Is he saying that he hates us?” Hee hee. Ah, the discipline of language: careful what you say to a Freeper!
BillF saw 1000 or so waiting in line to get their book signed by Hillary, having their experience in line burdened by the Freepers’ presence. JVb appeared in his red devil outfit and held up a sign that said, “Hillary, No Pardon on Our Deal” – we saw that sign later on the local news. On the evening news, Hillary was reported to have said, “It's wonderful to have such a positive response. I can't wait to greet the people who've been waiting.” Funny, she didn’t come out and meet the Freepers. Oh well. You can read more about the Hillary Wal-Mart Freep here and look at BillF's photos and videos here. BillF’s After-Action Report on the following day’s DC Hillary Freep is here.
The most recent Hilary Freep was this past Wednesday, June 18th. As BillF points out in his After-Action Report with photos, this is Sen. Clinton's third booksigning in eight days in the DC area, and the DC Chapter has Freeped her each time. If she continues to do these booksignings in DC Chapter territory, he concurs with Chapter leadership that the DC Chapter should just keep Freeping her "like a rented mule."

Freeping Blumenthal
BillF also recently attended a Sid Blumenthal booksigning. Well, actually, the DC Chapter Freeped ole Sid twice recently. Once when Blumenthal came out of the David Brock booksigning. And then again a couple of weeks ago, with Blumenthal as the primary target, at Blumenthal’s own booksigning. A worthy Freep target indeed. Like Hillary, Blumenthal is one of these guys that should be out of money and power by now, given all the taint on him, yet he keeps weirdly resurfacing like a bad penny. Hence the DC Chapter keeps Freeping him.
BillF relates his amusement at the Blumenthal Freep when DC Chapter member Doctor Raoul explained the situation to Blumenthal through his loud speaker: “Sid Blumenthal is stalking us. Whenever we show up to protest at a book signing, he shows up too!" BillF explains that the reference to stalking is entirely appropriate, inasmuch as it is widely believed inside the Beltway that Blumenthal is responsible for the scurrilous attacks on Monica as merely a “stalker” of President Clinton.

Why BillF Freeps: It’s a Lifestyle Thing
As you can see, BillF goes to a lot of these Freeps. Why? “It's a way to peacefully express one's point of view. Even though the press does not often gives us fair presence, just having a presence out there makes it more likely that the public will get an opposing point of view.”

October 2002 Al Gore/Terry McAuliffe FReep at the Brookings Institute in Washington, DC

It doesn’t bother him if there are more leftists than Freepers at the various anti-war protests. He reasons: “We've got the White House, Senate, and the House. And [the leftists] have just a bunch of people out on the street and a has-been actor playing president on a TV show.” BillF know he Freeps for many others who share his point of view. “I know that Freepers are closer to the thoughts of Americans as a whole than the leftists are. The way people have been voting lately and the way people live their lives shows that.”
Ah, now that’s a nice quote, isn’t it? Direct, well-chosen words, well-reasoned.
BillF was a military brat. It’s no surprise then that national security and military matters are issues “near and dear to my heart.” More to-the-point talk: “I think that if the left wins on those issues, there may not be a country.”
Wow, that would certainly affect my lifestyle. Thanks for Freeping and keep Freeping, BillF!

How Bill Found Us
BillF found his way to Free Republic in a round-about way. He started on the Prodigy political discussion board, especially the Whitewater board, but he rarely posted. Occasionally, and around 1996, he would take on the liberals at the Washington Post discussion board. He remembers the Post’s Howard Kurtz responding to conservative posts that the Washington Post was going too easy on the Clintons. Kurtz said that the Post’s coverage was balanced because “no less a figure than Michael McCurry has complained about our coverage.” Minutes later, replies came in: “There is no less a figure than Michael McCurry.” So BillF knew there were conservatives out there posting. But it wasn’t until he got on a high-volume mailing list of Clinton administration scandals that he heard, through other mail list members, about Free Republic.
BillF’s favorite Freeps include his first (the Rally for Justice), the 1999 Halloween Freep outside the White House, and of course the recent Freeps against ANSWER and Code Pink. (For those of you who don’t know the details, “Code Pink” is a group of leftist and probably socialist women who held anti-war protests around the White House and elsewhere. And actually on more than one occasion it became a little physical, with “Code Pinkos” pushing some Freepers. Not very well-bred ladies.)

Assorted Reflections on the Violent Left
BillF is a team-oriented member of the DC Chapter. He says: “I think one of the things that is so fun about the Freeps are the tremendous people who attend – DC Chapter and guests Freep from across the country. It's almost always a lot of fun.” But some times you need more than your friends. BillF notes: “There have been a few Freeps where things have gotten pretty dicey. I've analogized it before to being in a wagon train that's under attack. There have been occasions when the leftists have had us surrounded. Fortunately the police come in as the cavalry would in a Western movie.”
BillF has a dry, wry way about his humor. He describes his observations of the left’s behavior at these anti-war protests by quoting a police officer friend of his: "For being peace protestors, they sure are violent."
At one Freep a UPI reporter asked whether the war protestors across the street served any useful purpose. BillF said, “No,” but then he reconsidered. He quickly added, “they do provide comic relief.”
Thank you, Bill F!

We hope you continue freeping and laughing.

Love the zebras, jw! Aren't they interesting animals? It's funny, because last night I was just thinking of them - there is a TV commercial for Whiskas Cat Food - it's really cute. Shows a kitty cat 'stalking' a Wildebeast, as a lion would. He/she of course then chases the whole herd, who run for their lives. It's cute because it's so unreal; my husband made the remark that yes that was cute, but what he DIDN'T like to see was when the camera zooms in on lions as they stalk and capture and bring down a large animal like the wildebeast or zebra, etc. Survival, I know, but if they could all just be vegetarians. :)
