A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Or...How I'm Spending My Summer Vacation
"Over the river and through the woods, to Grandmother's house we go...."
School's out; summer's here.....
and that means baseball, cookouts, picnics in the park, lemonade stands, amusement parks.. and family vacations.
MinuteGal (aka Bahama Mama) and about three dozen other FReepers and FRiends recently returned from their second fun-filled FReeps Ahoy cruise, and 'DaBear family (Mama_Bear and JKPhoto) just got back from a wonderful week down under. While there, MamaBear got to cuddle with a Koala bear - one of the highlights of their vacation.
Our daisyscarlett's taking her traveling seriously this year - she no sooner got home from a month in their secluded cabin on the lake (miles from shopping and EVERYTHING!), than it was time to pack her bags to go somewhere ELSE! We hope we get to see her before the year is over! :)
To grandma's house, the beach house; the cabin by the lake, a cruise, to the mountains, San Francisco, DisneyWorld, a Dude Ranch, Golf Resort, Health Spa, Hawaii, Alaska, Six Flags.....where are you going this summer? Stop the newspaper, hold the mail, hire a plantsitter, pack your bags....and take us WITH you!
Or maybe...do you have a memorable vacation from the past - when everything that could go wrong... DID?! You can probably laugh about it now. :) Can't you? Now's the time. This is the place. :)

Thanks, Mixer!
1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar. 2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up. 3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit. 4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it. 5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me a FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

We need to take a trip to Texas. I want to see Corpus Christi and so many other places. .45MAN was stationed in TX (I forget where!) for a while back in the 60's, and I have landed at Dallas/Ft. Worth only to change planes (back when I was a flying fool!), but that's it.
Speaking of TX, we met Lodwick and his lovely wife at a restaurant in Roswell last Friday evening. We all had a delightful time! They had a wedding to attend in Roswell over the weekend and we don't live far from there.
Unfortunately, they are now at a funeral for a brother-in-law that was ill for some time. I believe the actual funeral is today. :-(
See? We know so many people from TX, we just *have* to go for a visit.

LOL! It's the only 'smiling' wolf I had handy.
(Vacationing at a Dude Ranch I guess?) :)LOL
Louiewolf doesn't do dude ranches. The dude-ettes leave much to be desired. : )

Wow! Eye candy graphic, JW!
To: Pippin
But have you ever been throught the Skyline Drive and the Blueridge Parkway? Hiya Pippin. Yes, I have. Beautiful country! As a child I visited the Luray Caverns (this is a nicely done website...you can even hear the water dripping over the rocks). I remember vividly how awestruck I was by the huge stalactites and stalagmites. I would love to see it again someday. Have you been there?
To: jwfiv
Oh, yeah..found a cool pic for you, ST.LOUIE1, He's a winner, and a keeper, JW, thanks!
...and am compelled to share...cuz it's cool watchin' you make all the ladies swoon...)
LOL Hey, pretend you're a wolf and they'll be swoonin' over 'you' too.
Nah, wolfie doesn't need competition.LOL
To: dansangel

"We hope to go out West to see the Rockies this summer, I've never seen them before." Oh, Aquamarine, you have a real treat in store for you!
The Rockies are actually even more beautiful than the Eastern ranges - and I lived not far from the Blue Ridge Mountains, going there many times - traversed the whole Parkway (and on up to Rochester, NY), and through the Smoky Mountains going from Ohio to North and South Carolina.
That year in Rapid City, we would go out on forays at every opportunity, one of the family saying, when the urge hit, "Let's go that way!" - "TURN RIGHT HERE!"
Often that would be where there were woods and no road at all, knowing the base was granite, and we'd not get stuck, like in Florida sand.
It was so great for the boys in particular, at their young ages, to come upon abandoned cabins. I'd have them describe the 'persons' who lived there - what they looked like - what they did to just get through a day....
How the parents had to hunt for food - chop wood for warmth and cooking - bring water to the home from a nearby stream to drink and cook and bathe and do laundry, etc....
One of the best times was on Mother's Day when we came upon an abandoned rose quartz mine, hundreds of pretty rocks for Mom to be had!
We also visited a fort that day, where Custer made a treaty with the Indians the settlers would stop coming, and of course broke it.
At the Gift Shop there, the boys pooled their saved up few dollars and bought a precious bracelet for me. It resides in my jewelry box today as one of my favorite things..:))

hehehe !
No, I have the duck but thought I'd try something different.
I'm sure that Pippin was expecting the duck, so I thought I'd throw her a curve ball.
She must be in shock and awe since I haven't heard from her yet. :O)
Live long and prosper !!

Thanks for the picture collage of Austrailia MB! It's always fun to see the results of a vacation that I knew about in advance. Glad it turned out so well for you two!

Slowly recovering some of the use of my fingers, typing one handed is not easy. Looks like the nerve damage is not permanant.
