A Few of FR's Finest..... ......Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001
So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!
And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

Thank you, LadyX, for this beautiful prayer,
and, DaisyScarlett, for bringing us
the praying hands graphic.
Opinions by our own 'King of Ping'
The guy's good, folks!
Thanks, Mixer!
1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar. 2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up. 3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit. 4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it. 5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me an FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~ Mixer |

Hi Meekie. Hot chocolat sounds good right now. Frigid cold in Ohio. Also, thanks for the link to the home invasion shooting. I can imagine all those libs who will try to make the burglers the "victims"!
I just heard of another case where a 70 something guy in a wheelchair was being burglerized (second time this year), killed one and wounded the other. Love when the good guy wins!

Hi Molly. Great to see you. Thought you and dansy would like to hear Mr. D. is arranging for my shooting lessons and has talked to a dealer about getting me a "220" (caliber?)... Whatever...the gun is what his dealer friend got for his own wife.... Hey it's all "foreign" to me!! Any imput from you both would be appreciated!
All we have is an outdoor range...I asked if it had "headphones" (remembering the picture of some of our infamous female freeper shooters) at which point he totally lost it! (I've never seen him laugh so hard) So we'll see...I might someday become a "heat packin mama!"

Hi Aqua. Hope you're staying warm today! Hi Dutchess. Yes, I'm staying warm today ...barely.
Lady keeps reminding me in her posts how much worse things could be here. :)
LX...did you really cut the curves and make it a straight b-line to the grocery store in Alaska? :)
To: dutchess; mountaineer
That's great that you're going to take that step. Can practically guarantee that you'll get hooked! When you get your lessons, the best thing is to try different kinds: revolvers, semi-automatics, etc.
The place I go to is a gun store with all sorts of equipment and an indoor range.
They have a number of used guns at any time on sale, and these can be rented for awhile along with the range. That is how I found my .38 revolver.
But a significant part of the NRA certification I got was trying out various other pieces. You never know what will "fit" YOU.
Let me know how it goes!

"LX...did you really cut the curves and make it a straight b-line to the grocery store in Alaska? :)" LOL - read my lips, Aqua - it was not a Hummer vehicle..:))
No "curves" - knew there was no chance I'd hit a "curb" beneath the hard-packed snow accumulation with a few feet of new snow on top.
The base between the commissary and me was laid out in a lovely, predictable grid.
Only one left turn to make to get within a block of it - then with no traffic, entered the parking lot at whatever point I wanted.
THEN came the beeline straight to the door, gunning it so I wouldn't get stuck!
The Chevy van had only 75 horsepower, mind you, but accommodated with ease 7-8 caribou when the fellas went hunting, and had a great personnel heater in the back to ensure everyone was warm.
It was easier than 3 years before when I lived near the Fairbanks airport, in the woods, a 1/4 mile from the Chena River.
When the snow melted in May, all the water created behind me flowed toward the river, making a slow-moving stream (@ 30' wide) between my house and the road to the highway.
Protocol for a couple of weeks became leave the car on the other side of said stream.
Get into the rowboat and row across to dry ground.
Go to town in said vehicle and back with necessary items.
Load items in rowboat - row across stream to yard.
Adventures?
The Lord put me through a few paces in my time...:)))
