A Few of FR's Finest..... ......Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001
So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!
And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

Thank you, LadyX, for this beautiful prayer,
and, DaisyScarlett, for bringing us
the praying hands graphic.
Opinions by our own 'King of Ping'
The guy's good, folks!
Thanks, Mixer!
1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar. 2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up. 3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit. 4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it. 5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me an FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~ Mixer |

Jim Robinson is my #1 hero of the internet.
That picture, though, makes him look a little like Joe Stalin.
Not that there's anything wrong with that...

What a beautiful and appropriate graphic for the Pledge of Allegiance this cold day in America!
Thank you for inserting the prayer for the sons and daughters who serve her around the world.

Morning in Fairbanks
Under my Favorites, I keep a link to a website maintained by a fellow in Fairbanks, Alaska, where I lived 3 1/2 years.
In addition to a Live Cam from the Bureau of Land Management by the Chena River there, he also has stories and photographs of his personal experiences, residing on a farm outside town.
One feature shows some of the Aurora Borealis.
The following, and his narrative, are for your winter perspective, wherever you reside.
Rivers of Light 1999
My daughter Kim and I turn the horses out in the morning before school beneath a blazing sky.
"Hey dad, you better watch Misty, I think she's eating something out of your camera bag."
I am asked quite often about how I can live in a place that's so cold and dark during the winter months.
Sometimes I think about the same thing, like when I'm trying to get my car started after forgetting to plug it in the night before, or when a frozen water pipe keeps me from that long awaited hot shower at the end of the day.
But then I find myself out in the middle of a snow covered field, in my vapor barrier boots, Refrigaware overalls and thick down parka.
Even at 30 below I feel quite warm.
As I poke my head out from the fur ruff of my parka and tilt my head waaaay back, I think to myself; "Now, how am I gonna explain THIS."
Digest that, folks, as you engage in the hustle and bustle of your daily life.
Be sure to take a moment to savor the wonders around you ~ ~ ~

Good morning. Note bene:
WASHINGTON (Jan. 25) - Traffic on the Internet slowed dramatically for hours early Saturday, the effects of a fast-spreading, virus-like infection that overwhelmed the world's digital pipelines and broadly interfered with Web browsing and delivery of e-mail.
Sites monitoring the health of the Internet reported significant slowdowns globally. Experts said the electronic attack bore remarkable similarities to the ''Code Red'' virus during the summer of 2001 which also ground online traffic to a halt.
''It's not debilitating,'' said Howard Schmidt, President Bush's No. 2 cyber-security adviser. ''Everybody seems to be getting it under control.'' Schmidt said the FBI's National Infrastructure Protection Center and private experts at the CERT Coordination Center were monitoring the attack and offering technical advice to computer administrators on how to protect against it.

Issuing Code Reds already, Free?!
What time is the Chess Match?
Is the one for whom you are rooting called a Chess Mistress rather than Master?
Surely not a Mattress Mastress!
Does a dutchess have to be Dutch?
Is dansangel - never mind!
Idle thoughts on a quiet morn..:))
