USO Canteen FReeper Style ~ Military Valentines Day Project Thread 2 ~ January 22 2003

The original idea about organizing a Canteen project to mail packages
to the military belongs to MoJo2001
What started out with a simple FReep mail to several people quickly became a hit.
My 2 cents was to suggest that we get this project underway
in time to get these packages to the military by Valentines Day.
I think there are many different ways to do this.
Our goal is get get packages and/or cards, letters and e-mails to the military
so thay do not feel alone or forgotten on Valentines Day.
If you have not been to the USO Canteen Post Office recently there are new links and info there.
Info on what to include in Care Packages, snail mail postcards, new e-mail links, phone cards, etc.
Several FReepers have obtained snail mail addresses for active duty military.
Some of you have family and friends serving right now.
As you can tell this project can go in many different directions.
Some of you may want to "team" up with others to send one big package.
Others may want to do this by themselves.
Some may just want to e-mail or snail mail Valentines messages.
What is needed now is to post approved snail mail addresses of military bases and/or individuals.
I propose that each Wed between now and Valentines Day the thread be used to update info and ideas.
So to qoute a great patriot of 9/11 "LETS ROLL" and get this project underway!

After a day fishing in the ocean a fisherman is walking from the pier
carrying two lobsters in a bucket. He is approached by the Game Warden who
asks him for his fishing license.
The fisherman says to the warden, "I did not catch these lobsters, they are
my pets. Everyday I come done to the water and whistle and these lobster
jump out and I take them for a walk only to return them at the end of the
day."
The warden, not believing him, reminds him that it is illegal to fish
without a license. The fisherman turns to the warden and says, "If you
don't believe me then watch," as he throws the lobsters back into the water.
The warden says, "Now whistle to your lobsters and show me that they will
come out of the water."
The fisherman turns to the warden and says, "What lobsters?"

The cop got out of his car and the kid, that was stopped for speeding,
rolled down his window.
"I've been waiting for you all day," the cop said.
The kid replied, "Yeah, well I got here as fast as I could."
When the cop finally stopped laughing, he sent the kid on his way without a
ticket.

Still the group can claim a few successes. There are suddenly seven Democrats running for president and lab tests confirm there's not a dime's worth of difference between them.
Richard Gere won a Golden Globe Sunday for his role in the movie Chicago. It could be a sign. If the American Gigolo can win a Golden Globe for Best Actor, then what's to keep John Kerry from becoming the next President of the United States?
The Dixie Chicks will sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. The trio is trying to cross over from country. On the advice of Trent Lott, they're changing the name of the group to Three White Chicks Who are Terribly Sorry about Everything.
Colin Powell told the Security Council Monday that the world must stand firm and not become impotent. That's how competitive the cabinet is. Colin Powell is trying to beat Don Rumsfeld's TV ratings by stealing dialogue from Sex and the City.
Colin Powell was opposed by Germany in Security Council debates Monday. They begged the secretary to allow inspectors time to prevent a war. You know the world has turned upside down when Germans are asking Episcopalians to give peace a chance.
Baghdad offered the U.N. inspectors private interviews with scientists Monday. There's a reason for this newfound compliance. Saddam Hussein finally realized that we already know he takes Viagra and dyes his hair, so the secrets are out.
George Clooney refused to apologize Monday for joking about Charlton Heston's Alzheimer's due to Heston's NRA position. Handguns aren't needed in Hollywood. All it takes to kill somebody in this town are a few well-chosen words to Out Magazine.
