The best response would be to put him on a committee completely unrelated to anything of consequence in Vermont. Neuter him politically in his home state. The Committee on Indian Affairs or Joint Committee on Printing would be good places for him to reflect on his decision.

Jeffords reminds me of the woman that a fellow meets in a bar. After he buys her a drink he asks her if she would sleep with him for $1000. She replies, "Of course I would." He then asks her if she would sleep with him for $10. She says, "What do you think I am?" He say, "We've already established that - - we're just dickering on the price now."

OTOH There are no permanent enemies - - just permanent interests. The GOP should be interested in keeping a majority and insuring that Jumpin' Jim's successor is a Republican. Wouldn't that be easier if he is an (R)? (serious question)

I was encouraged by yesterday's activity. The Pubbies rolled over the rats in the Senate and gave them the beating they've deserved time and time again. The networks whined and moaned about "backroom deals" but through it all, I wasn't concerned.

The networks no longer have the credibility nor the clout to present such opposition to the President's mandate. The Pubbies in Congress under his lead simply steamrolled through business. It was a highly productive day and through all the whining on TV I know the American public knew what was happening. They now have their alternative sources of the truth and won't fall for liberal lies so easily again.

After all the months of stonewalling necessary legislation, congress as a whole began to function. I bet Daschle cried himself to sleep last night. The rats are so desperate they've pulled the "Ice Queen" out of deep freeze to play a more prominent roll (it's kind of like having Darth Vader in the Senate.) At any rate the next few months in congress should be quite entertaining.

I think this mis-guided fool had already been told "NO!", so his vote against Homeland Security was his "I'll get you by snapping my fingers in your general direction!" gesture.

He will likely be ignored by both sides for the rest of his career in the Senate. Vermont is basically unrepresented as of January.
