[history]
James Jeffords surely must be the loneliest senator on Capitol Hill. Just six months after the Republican leadership pulled out all the stops to get the Vermonter re-elected in 2000

If we take LA on the 7th, they'll be losing TWO seats on each committee.I have been speculating about this ... how likely is that to be true? Anybody?

Gives a new meaning to the word chutzpah, you mean.
I hope the Republicans really put the screws to him. I think the jumpin' Jim would serve Republican interests much better as an example of what happens to dirtbag traitors.

So what's an opportunist to do? Rejoin the Republicans. Can someone clue me in, when was the last time Jeffords did not vote with the majority of the Democrats? Seems he has been on the Democrat side on every issue.

I've got better marble in my low voltage ground cover!!!!!!
F$%jefford"s STEVE MC'QUEEN WOULD RUN OVER HIS MAMMY! RIS
To: kattracks
The best response would be to put him on a committee completely unrelated to anything of consequence in Vermont. Neuter him politically in his home state. The Committee on Indian Affairs or Joint Committee on Printing would be good places for him to reflect on his decision.

Jeffords reminds me of the woman that a fellow meets in a bar. After he buys her a drink he asks her if she would sleep with him for $1000. She replies, "Of course I would." He then asks her if she would sleep with him for $10. She says, "What do you think I am?" He say, "We've already established that - - we're just dickering on the price now."
OTOH There are no permanent enemies - - just permanent interests. The GOP should be interested in keeping a majority and insuring that Jumpin' Jim's successor is a Republican. Wouldn't that be easier if he is an (R)? (serious question)
. . . one more thought.
"Keep your friends close and keep your enemies even closer." I say take him back and give him NO committee assignments.

Talk about an appropriate nickname: Jumpin' Jim Jeffords. LOL! Whoever came up with that was right on target. Was it Rush?

At 68, senile Jumpin' Jimmy should just hang it up, seek treatment for his Alzhiemers, and let Dr. Dean pick a replacement. <<
Nah. Jumpin' Jim should wait until late January to hang it up, so Governor-elect Douglas (REPUBLICAN-VT) can pick a replacement. How sweet would that be? ;-)

The questions now becomes, will the Republicans stop worrying about being called "mean" by liberal democrats and do what they should with Jeffords? No committee assignment, no power at all within the GOP or in the senate.

The questions now becomes, will the Republicans stop worrying about being called "mean" by liberal democrats and do what they should with Jeffords? I was encouraged by yesterday's activity. The Pubbies rolled over the rats in the Senate and gave them the beating they've deserved time and time again. The networks whined and moaned about "backroom deals" but through it all, I wasn't concerned.
The networks no longer have the credibility nor the clout to present such opposition to the President's mandate. The Pubbies in Congress under his lead simply steamrolled through business. It was a highly productive day and through all the whining on TV I know the American public knew what was happening. They now have their alternative sources of the truth and won't fall for liberal lies so easily again.
After all the months of stonewalling necessary legislation, congress as a whole began to function. I bet Daschle cried himself to sleep last night. The rats are so desperate they've pulled the "Ice Queen" out of deep freeze to play a more prominent roll (it's kind of like having Darth Vader in the Senate.) At any rate the next few months in congress should be quite entertaining.

Do you know whether senators receive additional pay for serving on a committee?

Where have the traditional institutions like 'Tar and Feathering' gone? What about the venerable practice of using Stocks and Pillories for these asses?
To: Arthur Wildfire! March
The first time I saw or heard "jumpin' jim" was Rush. I believe he, or somebody close to him, coined it.

So what's an opportunist to do? A opportunist can sacrifice his principles for privilege. However, after doing so he should soon anticipate the possiblity of having neither principles nor privileges.
To: Deb
I think this mis-guided fool had already been told "NO!", so his vote against Homeland Security was his "I'll get you by snapping my fingers in your general direction!" gesture.
He will likely be ignored by both sides for the rest of his career in the Senate. Vermont is basically unrepresented as of January.

What a whore Jefford's is.
To: mystery-ak
Whore, eh?
Well, this is one whore who deserves a good flogging in the Rotunda.
No more, no less.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
