CNN Headline News is reporting that a woman has been shot near a Home Depot in Falls Church, VA, and that authorities are investigating whether this is another sniper attack.

I am not good at distances but the "back door" way via Roosevelt would be easiest and still I would not want to do it in a hurry. Traffic and lights, etc. would not let you get far at a time. I would guess ca 2 miles.

As they reported from the scene, they said they will not report the location of police roadblocks. duh!

I hope they are monitoring ALL CELLULAR calls, if possible, in case the shooter is getting escape route information by phone.

It would be quite a gamble to pull off this shooting and then try and make it across the Potomac before a roadblock could be set up. And every motel is going to notice anybody in a white van that check in. So I think we can surmise that perp either lives in VA, has a business there, a swapout car there, a support group/safehouse there, or the white van report is false. My hunch is that the police have a good degree of confidence that the van is white. So that gets us back to geography. The longer he is on the road, the greater the risk, and there are a limited number of crossings back into MD. To avoid these bridge chokepoints he'd have to go west of Cumberland before circling back, again raising time on the road and risk. MD was easier early on, becuase the level of response and manhunt was smaller, but as this has gone on he's had to pull back to his home turf(or at least away from choke points). Thus it looks like there is a N.VA aspect to this, which helps the police to narrow their focus some.

I still bet he'll be caught before the end of next week.

After some highly recommended plumbers had failed at replacing the toilet seal on the only toilet in my house (barely perceptible leak converted into a steady drip through the kitchen ceiling below, courtesy of these pros), yours truly, Harriet Homeowner a.k.a. It's not that I didn't start in mid-afternoon, but between my lack of experience, and the complications presented by an old sagging floor and ancient piping, it was almost midnight when I realized that there was one more thing I needed to complete the job, and put the toilet right side up again. It was after midnight when I got to Home Depot, but bless 'em, they were still open.

My guess is that the cops assume the snipers have access to the radio waves. This is smart cop work IMO, at this time.

Look up the Michael's stores in the Maryland phone book. They all have an address likely and could be the "AREA" he heads for. It was this commonness he chose so he wouldn't be looking for "uncommon" names each time. It sure is a way to keep things straight.

With GPS and the address, he'll be shown several routes likely but I don't know how the auto units work.
