The full whispers column for July and the full title of the column isn't out until later this afternoon this is his tease like Drudge does on Sunday nights.
This new strategy looks like 'Scare the old folks and students on loans' all over again. They are just securing the base, no one else with this..

I have missed discerning the Bush strategy of starving domestic programs. Maybe I have been asleep at the wheel.

Clinton made the same charges in 1992 when he beat former President Bush, claiming that the then President was too much of a foreign policy leader and a zero at home.I hope he and the Dems try this strategy. Then I hope the Repubs remind folks that if the terrorists are not stopped, there will be even MORE 9/11s and all those nice domestic programs will be worthless! AND I hope the Repubs. will remind folks who it was who was asleep at the switch and allowed bin Laden and Al Queda to flourish in the 90s, thus allowing 9/11 to occur!

..administration diverts money needed for critical domestic programs to the war. It's more like guns and butter, actually. Fortunately for the Republicans, the "Balanced Budget/ tough medicine" Democratic voice is practically nonexistent these days. Not even Joe Lieberman qualifies anymore (if he ever did)
Annnnnnnnnnnnnd just what "critical" domestic programs are these he's referring to?

What Clinton has to realize is that George Bush Jr. has a wild card in his back pocket that even his father never had. I would not be surprised if Osama bin Laden's death or capture was announced two weeks before the 2004 election. Maybe we'll even see Donald Rumsfeld show off Osama's faded, dusty turban during one of his daily press conferences.
It's tough to beat a guy in poker when he puts five aces on the table.

Events will change the perspective on whatever such ploys BILLDO may have.
His era will also come out smelling like stinky farts from a skunk riding satan's mule. . . of course the timing could be interesting.
We should certainly be alert and make every effort to shoot such ploys down sooner than later.
I still say 1:1 persuasion of 3-4 people in our network who would otherwise vote democratic should be a high individual priority.
IF 60,000 of 80,000 FREEPERS did that, it could mean 180,000 votes for Republicans, at least conservatives that would have gone democraps. In strategic areas, that could make a chunk of a difference.
People are more likely to be persuated by someone they respect and like than they are by ads. Don't waste time on the chronic brain-dead democrap at all cost sorts of people. But fairminded habitually democrap voters there are. And they are vulnerable on a list of points. But they will take work to change. The country is worth it.
IF even one of the 3 REALLY SAW THE LIGHT and became similarly energized, the math could turn geometric. That would be a lot of impact.

Bubba is forgetting that there was no 9-11 on Daddy Bush's watch, therefore, it was easier to fall for his line of bull (at least for certain weak-minded individuals). I doubt that the American people will be willing to trade their safety for funding the construction of a community center for aging homosexuals.

I didn't see Bill chafe when Hill claimed Billions and Billions for NYC following 911 and state "she" would hold Bush's feet to the fire for the money.

...yawn... straight from the same sh*t, different day handbook of democrat strategery. Just a frustrating situation, that's all. We should have drove the stake in when the bas*ard was napping. Unfortunately, Trent Lott is terrified of vampires.

I assume that the Democrats recognize that this is a very high-risk strategy. Should they get themselves on record as the party of, "Never mind that war against terrorism, let's tend to things at home," and then there is another horrible attack, they will have erased themselves from the national agenda for a generation. I don't understand why they want to play with this. Any parallels to the Gulf War and what worked on Bush Sr. are specious at best. This isn't about Kuwait. This is about ordinary Americans wondering every day whether that bridge they drive across on their way to work is going to blow up with them on it. Peddling social programs is for when people are feeling flush and pretty good about the country, and you can make them feel guilty about "the poor being left behind." Well, not even the poor want to get blown up or gassed. That whole pitch is just ill-timed and suitable only for use on the most liberal Manhattan Democrats. I'd also question whether the Democrats really want to be seen with Bill Clinton leading the charge. All that says is that they don't have anybody on their bench. It also allows the Republicans to run against Clinton, who fires up the R's base like no one else alive. If the Democrats want to save the GOP tens of millions in get-out-the-vote money, waving Clinton in our faces is the best way to do it. |

The Clinton team has brought on a new "secret" party consultant but declined to provide further information on how they planned to defeat the GOP in 2002.

Clinton has a greatly exaggerated opinion of his own abilities. He's basically a dufus screw-up, with a press that writes up every bone-headed mess-up as brillance.
And when he fails in 2002, the press will then conveniently ignore that he ever tried, and blame someone, or something, else.
