Received two cell calls from Dave. The stage is set. The flags are waving. The weather is great. They're ready to Roll! Around 0945 the crowd was 50+ including Kristinn, sauropod, Leadpenny, Angelwood, Exit 148, GoreWarVet, Dutchy, Congressman Billy Bob, Black Agnes, TaxMan, TGSL DeComa, WhoKnowsWhatEvil, FireBrand, Country Dummy, Stan Waite, Pro2aMom, 0351Dog. (please pardon any mispelled "names" or omissions. The cell connections were poor).
Around 1015 the crowd was continuing to grow, with some spill over from the Peacenik/anarchist nitwits. Dave reports that it was the port-o-potties that attracted them. But our fearless Freepers labelled the doors "Patriots" and Patriot Women". It seems to be turning them away.
More to follow. Mustang sends from Florida.
No kidding! I was watching bits and pieces of C-Span last night and in the midst of the anti-American hate, I heard a faint USA! USA! USA! It cracked me up. Several times during the speeches we led cheers from the stage and the crowd. What an awesome day! Thanks to all who organized and stood watch.
Great job!
Priceless yes - Lloyds of London Auction material!
When I first saw you, my thought was, "what in the world is that guy trying to do. He is walking around there, smiling, having a good time, and the other Freepers aren't even responding"! I thought that if you came over my way, I was going to ask you about the violin and baseball bat that tree made. I was going to ask you if you used wooden pencils! I was going to really shame you!!
It wasn't until dinner with the others that I mentioned all the diverse groups that barged in and mentioned this guy with the silly sign about killing a tree. When they told me that you were one of us, I nearly fell of the chair. Now it all comes clear, and I understand now what you were doing. (I need to learn more subtlety in jokes, I guess!)
Anyway, I'm called Exit (((shaking hands))), and I think what you did was really funny!
...just to suit ..HILLARY...
All I can report is what he told me. I apologize to one and all for misspeaking myself by reporting that "People for the American Way" paid for the bus.
I am sorry that your daughter and granddaughter got caught up with these vermin. They mean to destroy the United States of America, and are my sworn enemies.
I suggested Kristinn for the interview since he was getting so good at speaking to cameras, but she wanted my viewpoint. So I stopped what I was doing. We had to move pretty far away from the stage because they were testing the system and the music was very loud -- the mike for the camera was picking up reverberations. The time was about ten minutes to 10 a.m. and there were no people gathered for the rally yet. The rally didn't begin until 11 a.m. and everyone who was on site was busy putting up tents, supplies, guarding the porta-potties, etc. If CNN mentioned sparse attendance at that time, they should also have stated that the rally was more than an hour from starting.
When the lady came from a.n.s.w.e.r. to complain about the volume, I heard what the captain of the Park Police told her, "Lady, I can't help what direction the wind is blowing."
Thank you for the explantation. And thank you for everything you do to fight for us against the leftists in DC.
The Anti-??????? (even they are confused as to what they were here for) crowd are world class litterbugs, I can tell you that!
I don't believe that this was a big issue with those of us at the Rally. I came home after the Rally to read dio's comments and a few others who seemed to have an issue with numbers. DC Chapter members (from the old Clinton days, and Condit, and China embassy, etc.) are used to working in smaller numbers than union/Democrat bus-in type events; it makes us work that much harder and put that much more heart into our work when we are outnumbered. While we may have been outnumbered in the physical sense, we were definitely in the majority if you count functioning brain cells of the opposing groups' attendees.
What were the measureable goals for this event as decided by the organizers prior to deciding to proceed and were they achieved?
To show support for our troops and for America. Yes.
BTW - Criticizing others for not being there will not help attendance at your next event.
I was quoting MrConfettiMan (remember him?) from his post titled "I was there, where were you?" that inspired the creation of the DC Chapter. The rest, as they say, is history.
I'm not sure I follow your message in response to this comment I made:
It's very interesting to read back through the comments on this thread posted live while we were all away working the Rally.
Also, reading Dave's live phone call reports help me to know what was going on in the areas he was working. We didn't get to spend too much time jaw-boning with one another yesterday, if you know what I mean.
We had a great Rally, with fantastic speakers. And the hardiest FReepers I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. It was a great day!
But really, it's not important that I try and figure out what the point was. We all had a great time, even during the potty wars, and the day was a huge success. The radical left did not have DC all to themselves on Saturday, and we made very public our support for America's military men and women and our war on terrorism.
