Ancient Tablets Offer Beer Primer
DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) - A Syrian-Belgian-British archaeological mission unearthed 3,800-year-old Babylonian beer-making instructions on cuneiform tablets at a dig in northern Syria.
Abdel-Massih Baghdo, director of the Hassakeh Archaeological Department, told The Associated Press in a telephone call that the 92 tablets were found in the 14th layer of Tell Shagher, a site just north of Hassakeh. He said the tablets showed beer-making methods and tallied quantities of beer produced and distributed in the region.''
Hassakeh, 400 miles northeast of Damascus, is known these days for its wheat production.
Can't taste any worse than Coors Light.
I couldn't find it. Great info at the beer institute, though. ----> http://www.beerinstitute.org/history2.htm

Okay, who threw the hops & yeast in Mrs Enkidu’s barley chowder?
So, can you convert that to the English system of measurements? And I do NOT mean 1 Ninkasi = 36-28-34!
Let’s drink to the tradition.
1 (10 3/4 oz.) can Cream of Mushroom Soup
3/4 cup milk
1/8 tsp. black pepper
2 (9 oz. each) pkgs. frozen cut green beans, thawed*
1 1/3 cups French Fried Onions
Directions:
MIX soup, milk and pepper in a 1 1/2 -qt. baking dish. Stir in beans and 2/3 cup French Fried Onions.
BAKE at 350°F for 30 min. or until hot.
STIR. Top with remaining 2/3 cup onions. Bake 5 min. until onions are golden.
I look forward to the discovery of the 3,700 year old Babylonian capsules.
Every time Enkidu comes up, I start thinking about the “Darmok” episode of ST:TNG.
[clink!]
“Temba, his arms wide.”
Darmok
“Sokath, his eyes uncovered!” translation: “In the [sukkot; succoth] tent (booth) of the Ferengi, one must (keep his eyes peeled) be vigilant, lest he be cheated (more than usual).
“Car magazines..” — I hear chrome covered chariot wheels were all the rage back then.
