Former President Barack Obama was not pleased that former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris the day after President Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race.
In his new book Retribution, ABC News' Jonathan Karl provided new details on what had been widely known - that Obama didn't want a quick coronation of Harris, but rather 'a process' to determine who would become the Democratic nominee.
The Daily Mail obtained an advanced copy.
Obama called Pelosi shortly after her endorsement of Harris became public.
'The Obamas were not happy,' a Pelosi confidant told Karl. 'This person summed up Obama's message to Pelosi as, essentially, "What the f*** did you just do?"'
Pelosi told the former Democratic president: 'That train has left the station.'
The endorsement had come as a surprise to Obama because he and Pelosi had been in 'regular communication' as it appeared then 81-year-old Biden was nearing the decision to drop out of the race, and 'they agreed Harris should not simply be handed the nomination unchallenged,' Karl wrote.
'Therefore, Obama and Pelosi - arguably the two most influential figures in the Democratic Party - had privately agreed to abstain from making any endorsements,' the longtime ABC News reporter said.

at this point, what difference does it make if she had a internal fake convention or was the nominee w/o voter approval, she was a loser.
i am going to enjoy watching the collapse of the democratic party.
I think the Democrats stabbed Joe in the back.
And I think Joe turned right around and stabbed them in the back with a quick endorsement of Kamala Harris. That was a real “Screw you!” to his own party.
And I think Pelosi was caught off guard and didn’t know what to do so she just went along with Joe’s endorsement.
These people are clowns.
Oh dear...trouble in lefty paradise
Pretty good analysis.
Empty Vodka bottle vs Black D!ldo at dawn would have solved everything.
Gee, there's news.
I believe that the last time a democRAT / DemoKKKrat was "happy" was before the Civil War.
So now its Jon Karl who has yet another “tell all” book about the 2024 Biden downfall and Harris nomination process. There will be a couple gossipy quotes like this but otherwise it won’t tell anyone anything important.
Democrats haven’t been this angry since Republicans freed their slaves the first time. 🤡
The much bigger story is I think Joe continued to stab Harris in the back right through to the election. He no longer cared once he was shivved if Trump won. That garbage supporter remark didn’t help Harris and I have a sneaking suspicion he dismantled the cheat machine that put him in office which lead to the evaporation of the votes in 2024 that magically appeared once the counting stopped in 2020.
It sounds more and more like this book is nothing more than gossip being passed around as a means of profit.
Who would buy a book by John karl other than mary Trump or someone similar.
Oh, I agree.
I think Joe endorsed Kamala as the person least likely to win. And then Joe set about sabotaging her to make darn sure that she didn’t win. If the Democrats were going to eff with Joe, then were going to find out that that was a big mistake. No one effs with a Biden!
The fact that Obama didn’t immediately accept the new reality and adjust to it tells us a lot about his thinking, or lack thereof. I’ve discovered that statements made in anger will just destroy whatever relationship there was and are therefore counterproductive. And, in truth, there was no time for a “process.” Biden’s late drop-out ended any possibility of bringing in a less disastrous candidate. Probably their best bet was Governor Shapiro or Newsome. But I’d be surprised if anyone would have volunteered to captain what appeared to be a sinking ship. And none of them wanted to taint their career by being associated with Harris.
Obama should have started on planning the midterms or the next presidential election. High on his list should have been a platform of some kind...anything. What is the Democratic platform? Right now, it appears to be anything that will piss off the mainstream voter. If they went back to their platform of say, twenty years ago, that would be a good start. But I suspect there’s little difference between that and the centrist Republicans of today.
So who is that?
I really don’t think the Democrats had much of a choice. If you’ve ever looked at the demographics of the Democrat party, you’ll see that they MUST have about 75-80% of the black vote. Otherwise, they’d never win an election.
They couldn’t risk denying their black female (DEI) candidate the nomination and risk pushing away such a large part of their base.
I hope she runs in 2028 where she would actually have to win the nomination so people would see how little support she would garner (and just how right I am).
You think?
All those Republican dollars going to Karl for his yellow journal.
I’m shocked, I tell you.
