The last remaining Denny’s in San Francisco closed its doors this month because customers would frequently leave without paying their bill in the crime-plagued city, according to the restaurant’s owner.
Chris Haque shuttered the 24-hour diner at 816 Mission St. near the Union Square section on Aug. 1 after 25 years.
“We’re the only store left, and we operated until the last day that we could,” Haque told SFGATE. “The cost of doing business is tremendous. There’s vandalism, and people come and eat and walk away, and there’s no one to stop them.”
Haque also lamented the fact that a key source of revenue — business conventions — had dried up in recent years due to the tech industry shifting to hybrid work during the pandemic.

Why pay? No one will stop you or arrest you.

This, children, is how you get a “food desert.”

People tend to learn lessons the hard way.
Society is disintegrating in slow motion.

Maybe another vendor will try a new Denny’s in San Francisco soon, but this time, by appointment only!

San Fran can follow the new Chicago plan and have the city government run stores. As we all know, government run businesses always make a profit.

I guess this is the new term? "Joggers" is not applicable? "Youths" is too age specific? BLACKS be too racist?

Yep , mandatory reservations are needed, and credit card number must be given ahead of time.
Of course if they instituted such a system I’m sure someone would complain about it.

Interesting the story is published in a New York paper.

Isn’t this how prepaying for gasoline started? I mean it would go against the way restaurants have operated since forever but they maybe could have tried that. Maybe they concluded SF just isn’t worth it period.

I'm gonna put on my tinfoil hat and say TPTB want this to happen. Then you get:
1) Government-controlled grocery stores
1) Government-controlled "restaurants"
1) Government-controlled food warehouses
All with armed guards and you have to pay with government-approved payment systems and no cash.
Sound far-fetched? Well, sure, it certainly does. The PLANdemic already shuttered businesses and restaurants in my area tht will never come back. We DID get some new Whataburgers though. That was about the only good thing.
After 2008 - COVID-19(84) there are several closed retaurants - I can think of several right off - I go past the buildings from time-to-time

Be like gas stations. Demand payment when they order. Or be like drive-throughs & demand money when food is delivered. The first option is best: have them pay when ordering.

Okay, I’ve read that tract many times. And I’ve never doubted the good intentions behind it. But that meter maid cart with a guillotine is something else.

During the days of the Fauci disaster I saw just how many thieves there truly are in this country. And yes, some of them were getting EBT (a few).
It was truly shocking to see. It’s much worse than they’d like for you to believe. Happens at Lowe’s, Home Depot, Hobby Lobby........
There was a K-Mart closing in my area years ago - went there because somebody wanted a particular item they supposedly had in stock - it looked like a mob scene - I’ll guess that 40% of the crowd wasn’t going to pay for anything.

Maybe they concluded SF just isn’t worth it period. Being able to eat and then pay is hallmark of a high-trust society. We no longer live in a high-trust society.
I imagine it's only a matter of time before you pay for your food (and a 20% tip) and the time it's ordered. This will become the new normal.

It is so sad. I’d like to vacation like I did 30 years ago in both San Fransico and LA, but now I fear to visit both those cities.
My favorite bar is Najas at the strand in Redondo Beach, would love to go back, but I don’t trust the area.
I don’t see me going back to California anytime soon.

Yeah, Jack probably wrote that in the 1970s - maybe late 1960s?
Either way, a cop trike (motorcycle) with a portal guillotine......
It's interesting how Revelation 20 is quite specific on how the Tribulation Saints that refuse the Mark of the Beast will be martyred (in general I suppose). One look at the way the world is quickly turning....
Revelation 20:4 King James Version
4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Revelation%2020%3A4&version=KJV
