Biden: I hope Iran will stand down, I don't know

US President Joe Biden on Saturday expressed hope Iran would stand down despite its threat to avenge the elimination of Hamas’ political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Reuters reported.

Iran and Hamas have blamed Israel for Haniyeh’s killing, though Israel has not claimed or denied responsibility. They, together with Hezbollah, have vowed revenge for both Haniyeh’s elimination as well as for the elimination of senior Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr.

Asked by reporters whether Iran would stand down, Biden said in response, "I hope so. I don't know."

On Friday, the Pentagon announced it would move a fighter jet squadron to the Middle East and maintain an aircraft carrier in the region as part of steps it is taking “to mitigate the possibility of regional escalation by Iran or Iran's partners and proxies”.

The neocons have wanted war with Iran for years and time is running out. Biden may do it to try to be a gallant leader. They were enraged that Trump called off their big attack over concerns for innocent lives. They wanted to do all out airstrikes in retaliation for them downing a drone.

It's not likely Israel had the capability to plant a bomb in a state guest house surrounded by Republican Guard in the middle of Tehran. This was probably an inside job. There's a strong anti-Hamas wing within Iran's government and they could be responsible. Or this could be a false flag operation executed by the regime in Tehran.

If the Israelis bought off someone in the IRGC it would have been done through someone known as a “cutout.” That’s someone who is hired, but either doesn’t know who hired him or who believes he was hired by, say, a rich Saudi. If the Israelis hired someone directly, it greatly increases the opportunity for betrayal or being found out. The Mossad is probably the most sophisticated intelligence agency in the Middle East, if not the world. They wouldn’t be so clumsy as to be found out. The whole thing may have been an operation by someone who wants to provoke a war, say, to facilitate the return of the Mahdi*.
