Denny’s ‘Lumberjack Slam’ Platter Triples in Cost, Rising to $18 amid Inflation
Breitbart ^ | 08/03/2024 | Amy Furr

A Denny’s breakfast platter has apparently become extremely expensive amid choking inflation and labor costs.

A post on Reddit shows an image of the restaurant’s menu where the price of the Lumberjack Slam sits at $17.99, the New York Post reported on Friday, noting that a decade ago, the meal cost around $5.99: Click here to see the post.

“The hefty price tag doesn’t include the premium option of upgrading the pancakes to double berry banana, cinnamon roll, or ‘choconana’ for an extra $3.09, which would bring the pre-tax, pre-tip total to $21.08,” the Post article said, noting the location of that particular restaurant was unknown.

I don’t eat anything processed, GMO, etc-only organic, fresh, paleo low carb, etc, so I realize I’m in the minority here-but you could not pay me any amount eat that processed mess-that is not a breakfast-it is an obesity starter kit-deluxe version. Why pay a ridiculous amount for frankenfood to ruin your health when fresh, organic and healthy food can be cooked at home for a fraction of the cost-or ordered at a farm-to-table organic restaurant for less money, if you just must go out? I think most of the chain restaurants are partly owned by big pharma that manufactures all the drugs for obesity and its various effects on health...

Yes-mostly potatoes-and processed bleached white flour that the toast and pancakes are made from. There are 970 calories, 96 gm of carbs, 38 gm protein, 23 gm sugar-and the fat is from unhealthy processed oils. It is nearly 1/2 the calories that an average male needs-2000 calories-per day-and no healthy fresh veggies or fruit in it at all. Flour and potatoes are cheap and have minimal nutritional value-so that is not a bargain/good meal...

Potatoes have a great deal of nutritional value, if they are not peeled which these are.

But mostly you are right. It is a lot of carbs. And that is before the sugar water is added to the pancakes, the jelly to the toast and the ketchup to the hash browns. The fried eggs are about the only nutrient dense foods on the plate.

Some sliced tomatoes and a apple would help. A glass of milk for some calcium.

McD has been (in-) famous for the sheer number of chemicals in its grub

We patronize a burger joint which is at least partly healthy. No freezers. Everything is delivered fresh each morning. But yes, the food is still what it is.

I used to be able to eat McD grub. Recently though it causes almost immediate (allergic?) reaction. I’ve actually been unable to get over to the side of the road before belching it up violently.

Big mess in car.

I don’t know if they’ve added new chemicals or what? Sometimes I can keep
It f form. But basically we avoid the joint — the better fresh burgers place being right nearby.

Shame is, there usedvyo be buffets with lots of salad and veggie and fruit selections. You could mix up a reasonably healthy lunch. All gone now. I guess people wanna drive Thru.

Combine ADM’s genetically modified wheat with a glyphosate freshener, liquid plastic sweetened with HFCS and artificial maple flavoring, sausage made of unidentifiable domestic mammals, massively over-salted bacon, and liquid eggs that have been sitting in a freezer since Dennys made their last bulk buy in 1979, and you have the Lumberjack Slam - an American tradition worth every penny of $18.00. :)

I used to work as a DJ in a bar in Fairfax, Va in 1980. Dennys was next door and we went almost every night at 2am. I’ve since gone from 210 to 178.

One of my aunts who was a naturalist like my mom made hash browns with scrubbed, unpeeled grated potatoes and they were great-they actually had a real flavor and a nice texture, too. I don’t like peeled potatoes even now. The ham isn’t bad as a protein source, but you are right about the eggs-the best real food on the plate-the eggs and a couple slices of bacon are a good breakfast. I wonder if a sliced tomato as a side can be ordered-or an apple or orange? Yogurt or cheese is supposed to be a better calcium source than milk for adults-I don’t know if a side of real cheese or yogurt would be available at Denny’s...

I haven't been to a Denny's for many years. Used to be the go to place at 2am after being out with a girlfriend or the buds.

Yep, $17.98 in So Cal, drink not included. $17.98, tax and tip figure $22.50. With coffee $27. But the Super Slam is "only" $9.99 (see above) and gets you everything other than the Ham steak and Toast. Do you really need toast with your Pancakes?
