The local Pennsylvania sheriff defended the armed officer who encountered former President Donald Trump’s would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks on the rooftop moments before the shooting — claiming it was the right call to retreat after the gunman pointed the weapon at him.
Butler County Sheriff Michael Slupe confirmed Monday that a local officer made contact with Crooks after being hoisted up to the roof by another officer — but fled when the sniper pointed his AR-style assault rifle at the officer.
“I would have done the same thing, absolutely,” the sheriff said.
comment. “All I know is the officer had both hands on the roof to get up on the roof, never made it because the shooter had turned towards the officer, and rightfully and smartly, the officer let go,” Slupe told KDKA.
The gunman immediately fired up to eight rounds at Trump, wounding him and killing a hero firefighter in the stands. Two others were also wounded.

Their job is to be brave!
Yesterday I was sure I saw a photo of Crook set up to shoot and you could see an AR front sight. I can’t find any photos of him getting ready to shoot today. They are already scrubbing the Internet of any information except their narrative.
Same but I’d have radioed the SS before climbing the ladder.
“You never-Trumpers should not be here, especially now.”
You never-Trumper should not be here seeding division, especially now.
It’s a great defense if you’re using both hands to hang on to the edge of the roof, and someone on the roof aims a 223 at you. I mean, you can’t really draw your sidearm when both hands are presumably occupied.
In hindsight, he/she probably should have fired shots in the air right after landing to alert others that there was, in fact, a gun in the area.
“Why wasn’t he killed instantly when he threatened the police officer?”
Out of sight of the snipers.
Re “… Would have done the same thing”
Then you shouldn’t be wearing a badge and a gun, sport…
Yeah, I had an urge to start collecting yesterday, but what
the heck. I took a pass...
We have video of the shooter up on the roof. I take it there is video of the officer attempting to get on the roof with the assistance of his partner and the shooter pointing his weapon at him?
That's a little different than climbing up a ladder to peer over. No free hand to draw a sidearm.
usually yes. same as FBI
There are two cowards of the county. At the least, he could have fired into air to alert good (if there were any) security people.
Had that officer even fired his pistol up in the air when he backed off the assassin sniper when he got an AR pointed at him, then the SS sniper counterfire team would have been searching and ready to fire, even according to their own effed up ROEs. IMO, Uvalde heroism on that officer’s part.
.......was wondering if I was going to have to say this!
But, you never disappoint.
They are loyal to their pensions only.
Especially when protecting a POTUS.
i call BS ... a properly trained LEO radios in a mayday as he climbs the ladder with one hand, and then continues to climb one-handed, with his firearm readied in the hand that had been operating his vest radio, and the first thing over the top should be his firearm aimed across the roof and ready to shoot ... the ladder is a 24’ aluminum extension ladder laid against a two story building ... pretty much any physically fit LEO should have little trouble climbing such a ladder with one hand ... a little slower than with two hands, but still quite doable ...
[OTOH, this SHOULD have been the job of a highly trained, very fit SS agent in the first place ... in fact, it’s criminal negligence that the top of the AGR International building wasn’t occupied by an SS sniper team in the first place!]

Putting aside what the cop did or didn’t do - let’s stay focused on the fact cops and the Secret Service knew there was a threat.
People in the crowd alerted them to the shooter. Based on that a local cop went up to investigate.
But still no one scrambled to a Red Alert Condition. Instead good guys watch the sniper fire into the crowd.
“Why wasn’t he killed instantly when he threatened the police officer?”
Out of sight of the snipers.

The cop climbing the roof might have been out of sight, but as the two snipers on stage right were watching Crooks for several minutes, surely they would have seen him back down somebody.
