Behind paywall

Here is the relevant part before paywall Anyone know what the judge did?

But even if the former — and possibly future — president could persuade voters to ignore his conviction, the appellate courts might not be so sympathetic. Several legal experts cast doubt on his chances of success, and noted that the case could take years to snake through the courts, all but ensuring he will still be a felon when voters head to the polls in November.

The agreement between the people and government appears hopelessly broken.

I hope that doesn’t include the Supreme Court.

Right, and Trump should immediately appeal this to the USSC as this is a matter of utmost national interest.

Last I heard, the SCOTUS is supposed to issue a ruling on immunity for Trump sometime in June. This from a case that was heard months ago.

Actually I don’t believe it. Closing off many avenues of appeal seems to suggest to judge bent over backwards to let the defense have its way but I sense the judge made many motions that benefited the prosecution, not the defense. For example, Trump’s lawyer wanted a change in venue but the judge denied that motion.

Fake News. You don’t need to be a Lawyer to see how unfair this mockery of Justice was.

Don’t believe this for a second. Every unresolved Objection by the Defense opens the door for an appeal.

They’re lying to you again!

Sentencing isn't until July 11 and Trump cannot appeal to the state before then. If he tries some kind of jail, house arrest, or travel restriction, Trump might seek immediate relief from the state or US courts, but what if he plays safe, confirms the conviction and gives him a simple fine and probation? That's hard to claim urgency in the courts.

I think it is better for Trump to wrap himself in the injustice of twice impeached, now a felon by the Dems and play it for all it is worth. He's good at that. Besides, have those two impeachments adversely impacted him at all?

I believe the defense had a witness who could have been very useful. But the judge blocked that witness from testifying on the important topics. So the defense didn’t bother to call them at all. As I understand it, having used the witness in any capacity would have been useful in a later appeal and that failure to make use of them was an error by the defense. I think the guy was a federal election law bigshot. That’s partly on the judge but mostly on the defense.

Who cares. This completely taints the whole legal system to me. Ex Con means nothing to me. I’ll always (if I care) hear the story for myself and make up my own mind. Hopefully this ensures no one will every support a stop and frisk type policy as a means of convicting someone of something. It’s clear to me now why the black community has no problem saying F the police. The system is roting to the core.

It’s the New York Times.

The worst propaganda rag in history.

They loved Stalin.

They haven’t been right about anything, or printed truth, for decades at least.

You’d have to be insane to to believe them…which most…no, all Leftists are.

Every time the judge sustains an objection by the prosecution it sets up an avenue of appeal. Everytime a judge disallows testimony by a defense witness it sets up an avenue of appeal. Every time a judge issuea erroneous jury instructions it sets up an avenue of appeal. Every time a prosecution witness is allowed to testify as to irrelevant matters that are more prejudicial than probative, it sets up an avenue of appeal.

The state court had no jurisdiction over alleged federal crimes. Jurisdiction is always an avenue of appeal.

The question is, what avenue of appeal is not open in this case?

Trump has a right of appeal from a final judgment. Always.

This trial was filled with legal errors and direct palpable violations of rights. Dirshowitz has commented on this and suggested Trump should not waste his time on the intermediate level Court of Apeals which will be a waste of time as it has already been and instea go directly to the COA for the State. The Judge cannot somehow wall off appeal on his violations of the US Constitution or his exceeing his jurisdiction [e..g blowing right by the statute of limitations; and, trying a federal crime in his state court]. This article must be garbage.

I can't read the article and really don't want too.

I am curious how the so-called judge has done something to strip President Trump of this rights to appeal.

This sounds to me like the Times is peddling hope to Dimocrats and discouragement to Republicans.

Perhaps the Times has private assurances that the Supreme Court has agreed to participate in the scam.

In my humble opinion, the Trump team should go on offense. The judge is part of a conspiracy to violate the federal civil rights of Trump and of American voters.
