Native American campaigners are raising questions about the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s first-ever curator of Native American art — claiming she does not belong to a federally recognized tribe in the US, The Post has learned.
Patricia Marroquin Norby was hired with great fanfare in 2020, after what the museum said was “a long and competitive search,” as its “inaugural Associate Curator of Native American Art” in its American Wing. For years, Marroquin Norby, 53, described herself — including in legal filings — as “Apache,” “Eastern Apache” and “Nde” as well as “Purepacha/Tarascan,” an indigenous group from the northwestern part of Michoacan, Mexico.
A year after her appointment, the New York Times described her as “the museum’s first Native American curator and its first curator of Native American art” in a glowing profile.

I have a close relative who has fantasized over a possible American Indian ancestory—despite no evidence of it.

I am actually 1/512 American Indian - it’s very common in people with Massachusetts ancestry going back to the 17th century. However, there’s no point to bringing it up.

When did Warren get a new job?

Well, I suppose they can fantasize all they want. They weren’t claiming that they knew they were?

Not Indian enough, apparently. I had a friend who was a 50% Ute. He used to spend time on the reservation here in Utah. The hierarchy is set exactly on how pure blooded the tribe members are. At 50% he was locked out of any official posts or duties. The leaders are picked on how pure blooded they are without regard to competence. He eventually just shunned the whole thing.
I find it hilarious when Indians accuse others of being racist. This includes both American and Asian varieties. Total hypocrisy.

Well, this person much later got a DNA test done that showed a “30%” crossover in DNA with all native people across North and South America, and it happens to be the amount of crossover about any American mutt of a person, has.
I think the total DNA all racial subtypes had was approaching 300%, due to heavy overlap. What good is that sort of DNA test?

I don’t know, even 1/512th of the profits from the nearest Indian casino would be pretty lucrative. Now that I say that, maybe I should check my own ancestry to see if I can get my 1/512th.

Ms. Norby should have a DNA test done. Elizabeth Warren did that, and it turned out the she was 1/1024 Indian. That seemed to be an acceptable number for everyone involved.
So go for it, Ms. Norby! 1/1024 should be an easy goal to meet for you.
