ROME — Pope Francis told CBS anchor Norah O’Donnell that conservatives are willfully blind and manifest a “suicidal attitude” in their narrowmindedness.
In an interview set to air Sunday on 60 Minutes, the pope asserts that a conservative “is someone who clings to something and does not want to see beyond that. It is a suicidal attitude.”
“One thing is to take tradition into account and consider situations from the past but quite another is to be closed up inside a dogmatic box,” he adds.
The Pope addresses his conservative critics in the church.

No I’m Not better than you at all.
In my large men’s group we recently explored the dangers of comparing ourselves to each other.....only thing worse than thinking your “better than” is thinking your “not as good as”.
That was in a study of the book Man in the Mirror by Patrick Morley.
If you haven’t read it I can’t recommend it highly enough. A must read for Christian men, it will show you things about yourself you never considered......and some of it ain’t so good.....at least for me anyway. But discovering things to improve on is what we should be doing right? 🙂
Have a blessed day.

I suppose he is talking about people’s souls/ s
He’s so loving, charitable, accompanying, merciful. The white widow spider.
"Ooops! I just did a Biden!" |
Pope Francis attacks conservatives and sincere people of faith.
Pope Francis has been a strong supporter of Hugo Chavez and Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela. He has also betrayed Catholics in China and supported the Communist government.
Democrats have to pretend Biden is a good, functioning President so they win the election. I would guess maybe 10% are telling the truth.
Catholics have to accept the leadership of the man who happens to be the Pope. Embarrassing to have to make excuses now. Worked out fine with Saint John Paul II.
Pope needs a better dictionary and a friend who speaks English. What a jar-head!
Keep it up, Pope Francis! How small can you make the Catholic tent? According to your restrictive thinking, you should be able to fit all like-minded (”Catholic”) progressives in a pup tent with room left over for the Vienna Boy’s Choir. Good grief!
IS THAT A REAL POPE, OR IS THAT A SEARS POPE?
Catholicism = highway to hell
You have to ask yourself; “is that a real Pope or is that a SEARS Pope”?
Just to swipe a line from Frank Zappa.
I never thought I would see a Pope who is truly diabolical as this one.
Thank you. I will read that book. I’ve already ordered it.
Yes, conservatism in the church (similar to political conservatism, but not the same) is more of an opposition to big changes in any direction- left or right (mostly left). It’s more a behavioral or personality disposition- continuity, steadiness, tradition with small changes over time, somewhat stoic & unemotional. I kind of think of it as an affinity for teaching tradition & also moderation in behavioral traits.
I think sometimes we conservatives (political & religious) forget that outside of our favoring traditional teachings & advocating beliefs supported by history & practice, there is another half to our philosophy that often gets overlooked. By nature, conservatives oppose rapid change & are skeptical of most “new” things that are introduced as they are unfamiliar, don’t have a track record, are unproven & aren’t based on decency. Conservatism is in a lot of ways an argument of moderation (not, of course, the bastardized modern variety of moderates we wrongfully associate with indecisive, overflexible establishment types in politics & church that are unmoored & unprincipled).
I guess in a church sense, I’d put myself in that category. I disagree with the sjw changes adopted by the church in the last 30+ years & the adoption of anti Biblical teaching. I also recognize that the membership, life experience & generational experiences will change over time. I absolutely support traditional, Biblical moral stances, but am not offended by different ways of reaching those that don’t come from a faith tradition 😉
Awesome my friend. I think you’ll find it very enlightening. I know I did.
👍🙏☝️
Whenever the Pope starts up with this stuff, I think he is just insulting people and not saying specifically what he finds wrong with those who adhere to more traditional ideas than he does.
And he seems to completely overlook the fact, the absolute fact, that more traditional groups of Catholics grow and have more vocations (by percent) than do more modernist groups.
It seems like what he advocates is what is causing “suicide,” if by suicide one means people leaving the Church, a dearth of vocations, and way, way too much very bad behavior.
It’s a Catholic thing.
Francis is not a Puerto Rican-he is from Argentina-a communist from a communist country. i’m a Catholic, but I do not believe this man should be pope-I believe he is an apostate-he is obviously not following the teachings of Christ-and hope he goes away soon. He is not the 1st bad pope-but let’s hope he is the last bad one...
Amen!
I know. :-P
