South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R), who has been under the microscope this week for an anecdote about killing her dog, defended her actions Wednesday, saying she shot the “dangerous” pup in order to protect her children.
“It was a dog that was extremely dangerous,” Noem said Wednesday on Fox News’s “Hannity.” “It had come to us from a family who had found her way too aggressive.”
“We were her second chance. And she was — the day she was put down was a day that she massacred livestock that were part of our neighbors,” she continued. “She attacked me. And it was a hard decision.”
Noem added that she had to make a choice between “keeping my small children and other people safe, or a dangerous animal, and I chose the safety of my children.”

Some of you were raised coddled and it shows.
Putting down your dog yourself is common. Putting down an aggressive, dangerous dog yourself is even more common.
At least she didn’t go on vacation with the dog strapped to the roof of the car.
The opponents are going to keep using this.
City people just don’t understand farm life. If a city person has a dog problem they simply load the dog up, drive out into the country and dump the dog. It then becomes a problem for someone else.
Some sweet pups you get turn out to be mean, or diseased when growing.
And yes, she should not mention it again.
She wanted to look like a savior-heroine. That is the problem.
Is she that desperate for life anecdotes of her courage and wisdom that she had to use this one?
I’m just wondering do these people think the dog should have been donated to a petting zoo?
What would the purpose of such action be? All it shows it the person who does it is not willing to face reality, or take responsibility for their own decisions.
If farmers took all animals they own, which need to be put down, they would soon be out of business.
Such actions are unnecessary and irresponsible. They promote the insidious idea that all actions in life must be delegated to "experts" who are approved of by the government. It is a very bad idea.
Shooting a dog is one of the most humane ways to put it down.
Sounds like now she resorting to making up stuff.
Trump doesn’t like dogs, so maybe this is a plus for him when selecting a VP. /s
I'd put them several rungs above Neocons.
The now-dead dog, “massacred livestock that were part of [her] neighbors.”
The dog was not “some poor li’l puppy” aspiring to become an astronaut’s best friend.
>> I’m just wondering do these people think the dog should have been donated to a petting zoo?
The dog should have been shot.
The shooter should have stayed quiet about it.
“You cannot break a dog of this”
Actually you can totally break a dog of it. You can desensitize them over time or you can just tie the dead chicken around their neck and leave it flipping around on them for 5 days. They will never chase a chicken again. Its an old farmer’s trick.
Thank you for being a voice of reason.
LOL
When you’re still trying to control the message after 5 days, you’ve lost control of the narrative. She’s digging a hole that’s about to strike China.
I tend to agree with you but then again I don’t believe people should be penalized for telling the truth when they did nothing wrong.
Exactly. Who thought this would work? Major backfire. She’s toast.
