South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R), who has been under the microscope this week for an anecdote about killing her dog, defended her actions Wednesday, saying she shot the “dangerous” pup in order to protect her children.
“It was a dog that was extremely dangerous,” Noem said Wednesday on Fox News’s “Hannity.” “It had come to us from a family who had found her way too aggressive.”
“We were her second chance. And she was — the day she was put down was a day that she massacred livestock that were part of our neighbors,” she continued. “She attacked me. And it was a hard decision.”
Noem added that she had to make a choice between “keeping my small children and other people safe, or a dangerous animal, and I chose the safety of my children.”

First Rule of Holes.
She’s digging a hole 10x bigger than the gravel pit in which Cricket met his doom.
Maybe she is right about the quality of the dog, but it’s hard to claim that it was dangerous when it was still a puppy.
Yup
They have vets in he dakotas. Could’ve taken the pup to the vet to be put down
Not dangerous. They get possessive like that if they haven’t been trained to retrieve and you try to take their prey out of their mouths. She’s an idiot, brought this on herself and should shut up.
It’s a shame but it’s also a shame that people are so childishly over sensitive about animals even about every aspect of life.
She’s simply describing reality. Sometimes you have to put down an animal with a very bad temperament.
We have lots of people who think that animals are to be elevated way above human beings.
My father-in-law shot his son’s dog for killing his chickens.
He and I came home from a trip to town and there were feathers all over the yard and dead and dying chickens scattered here and there.
You cannot break a dog of this.
He didn’t say a word, just got out of the truck, went into the house and got his shotgun, aimed at the dog and bang................
And, yet, you post from The Hill about it.
Except that the “livestock” were apparently just chickens. More backpedaling on her part.
Why is it so easy for the media to SarahPalin republican women?
Very often, the choice is between bad and much worse.
This is all about mitigating the emotional response of people who are not taking the time to think about the reality of the situation.
She has to reach them emotionally, not logically.
wow... it’s not like she had an abortion...
I thought it was also 14 months old.
In any event people have a right to control animals and to control livestock especially in farm areas.
I’m not sure if any amount of trying to rectify this is going to change hearts or minds. This was the DUMBEST thing to put in a Memoir! Who WANTS to remember something like that?
And, as a dog breeder/trainer, I totally get it. Some dogs must be put down.
I’d be suing my Editor over this one. What bad, BAD advice!
She’s really gone beyond the pale at this point. Her career is toast. I think Greg Guttfield said Kristi Noem has done something nobody else has been able to do. She’s brought the right and left together. 😆
Shoot
Shovel
SHUT UP
You think it doesn’t matter when your animal kills your neighbor’s chickens?
Not too many dogs can take down a cow.
