Bowers says he hopes students will come forward with any information they may have about the shooting.

Snitches get stitches.

I taught in an urban high schools for much of my career. Most of the honors kids had darn good attendance, except on skip day (in my school, it was junior-senior skip day). I disliked that day, as it made something wrong seem just fine.

So skip day was my bonus points day. Show up, and do some relatively easy bonus work. Apply it to your grade. And since I taught difficult subjects (chemistry and physics), those bonus points were often very much needed.

Most of my honors students showed up. They got their extra credit. Then they skipped right after my class. Oh, well. I tried.

What was the race of the black people responsible for this?

Maryland is one of the darkest states in the US at 1/3. Only Louisiana and Mississippi are darker.

Yes. But pretty much all the Black population is in Baltimore or P.G. County.

We moved out of Laurel in Anne Arundel County,2 years ago. That whole area has become crime infested. The closer yoe get to D.C.,the more dangerous it becomes. I wouldn’t live in PG County but if you paid me.

Jeez, was high school THAT long ago for you?

Based on what you wrote, you probably asked for homework every day. Ha Ha.

Sometimes kids do stuff that is not inherently “good for them.” What boggles my mind is how the parents and schools have taken what was a “blow off” day and turned it into an organized event. What is wrong with these people? Can these children think for themselves?

I don’t recall Senior ‘skip day’ being a policy of the schools, or intended to be educationally ‘useful’. It’s just something the students took it upon themselves to do. (I grew up in PG County and have always lived here.)

the new headquarters is now located in the middle of the ghetto.

Old cartoon of Frank and Ernest

They're walking in the city and a police car is goiong by them.

"They say where we are right now is the most dangerous part of town."

Police car has sign on the door: "Officers Carry No More Than $20 in Cash."

That is almost certainly Hanover Parkway, between Good Luck Road and MD 193 Greenbelt Road. I drove it every day and used to walk the trail in that park before it got too scary.

Schrom Hills Park used to be Schrom Airport, with a 5000 ft runway. My dad used to fly between there and College Park back in the 50s.

I grew up in Greenbelt in the 70s and 80s. Greenbelt was great then. Now I wouldn’t step foot in Greenbelt or MD for that matter. Ever.

I grew up, plus owned a house down the street from Greenbelt in the 60s, 70s and 80s and still live in Md, tho southern MD. I drive through that area occasionally and it is nothing like it used to be. Funny that the newsclip doesn't mention what school(s) was involved, DuVal, Parkdale and Roosevelt are within a few miles of that park.

Folks here wanna trash MD and I understand that but we are controlled by the Charles county to Baltimore county population, that whole corridor, DC,Bmore, Philly, NYC, Boston, Maine kills the whole upper east coast.

I grew up in Mt. Rainier and went to Northwestern.

Later I lived in New Carrollton until I retired.

SRSLY? What does age have to do with the subject? Yes, High School vs adults, but really what was the point of this apparent “tradition” that I never heard of until 18 years ago?
