Republican voters in Eastern and Central Oregon are so fed up with liberal lawmakers that they want to break rank — and state lines — and become part of Idaho.
On Tuesday, two Oregon counties, Morrow and Wheeler, are set to vote on a ballot measure about whether to explore leaving the state. Since 2020, nine counties in Eastern Oregon have already voted to join the Greater Idaho movement.
“People in Eastern Oregon are just different and have different views on crime, the Second Amendment, abortion, taxes and minimum wage [from the western portion of the state],” Matt McCaw, spokesman for Greater Idaho, told The Post. “The polarization with the western part of the state is real. When I meet with people and host meetings, there are a lot of complaints about the lack of representation. Eastern Oregon is just very conservative and has its own culture.
”So he and a group of fellow disgruntled Oregonians in the small city of La Pine began to hash out a plan to secede because they no longer felt represented by the liberal lawmakers in the state capital, Salem. The solution: Join Idaho, where the Republican Party is firmly in control.
“Eastern Oregon, where we all live, could get state-level government from Idaho that matches their values,” McCaw said.
It’s a radical proposition that would see nearly two-thirds of Oregon’s 63 million acres (98,000 square miles), but less than 10% of its population, blend into neighboring Idaho.

Liberals view conservatives as a tax base and nothing else. They are democracy at its worst. They will not let eastern Oregon go and couldn’t care less.
What does Idaho say about this? Has anyone asked?
I wish Eastern Washington would vote to do this too (I live in Western WA).
There are 39 counties and one (Seattle’s King Co.) runs the state politically
Last I heard, they were very welcoming.
And this is why you change the elections to whoever wins the most counties wins the electoral vote.
A better argument can be made for splitting states up. One or two leftist hellholes usually control the entire state. Prime example: Chicago. Southern IL is very beautiful and conservative, but they get screwed because of Chicago. We can easily add another 20 states within the Continental US.
What happened to the State of Jefferson?

New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new State shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or Parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.

We’re good with it. I’ve heard that a surveyor was bribed to cut a big piece of what should’ve been Idaho & give it to Montana. We should be a much bigger state! :-)

Eastern Oregon and Eastern Washington would be better off as part of Idaho.

Our forefathers ALMOST came to blows over giving each state 2 senators regardless of population.
States need to do SOMETHING similar. Perhaps instead of representation by population Oregon should give each county (out of 36) a vote in the House and each Senator one vote.
Then, King County would lose all it’s power and the state wouldn’t have to break up which I don’t think is a good idea, long term.
New York should do the same as should California. If people want to fight about it, fighting (and dying) over this proven concept would be better, in my opinion, than breaking up the state, which could also lead to fighting (and dying).

I feel your pain! Wisconsin has 72 Counties - and two of them, Dane & Milwaukee, think they OWN the rest of us! Ugh!
