The White House came close this week to facing yet another crisis, this time over a railroad dispute that could have taken a crowbar to the U.S. economy ahead of crucial midterm elections.
But in the end, a tentative deal was struck, with both sides crediting the Biden administration with stepping in to help avert a strike that was set to begin on Friday — one that could have further disrupted the nation’s fragile supply chain.
Administration officials became involved in the talks weeks ago, lobbying both sides around the clock to argue the stakes were too high for a strike.
“It’s a big political risk. If it all blew up, the administration was going to be left holding the bag,” an industry source familiar with the talks said.
Biden called into negotiations around 9 p.m. last night to say a shutdown of railways was unacceptable, according to a White House official. Labor Secretary Marty Walsh led 20 hours of talks in the final stretch while Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg worked the phones

The railroads shed one-quarter to one-third of their employees in the past several years and showed high profits on Wall Street. However, I think that in today’s work environment having employees severely penalized for taking leave for a necessary medical/dental appointment, attending to a family emergency, or for a close relative’s funeral was a bridge too far for the railroads to defend.

Brilliant advice? I would say more of OUR tax money.
Great but don’t slander God in your glory.
Thanks for the truthful explanation. We ALL know President Poopy Pants is too demented to leave a stage. He ain’t finagling solutions to a rail strike.
How Biden suffered 3rd degree brain fog during the
negotiations to avoid the rail strike.
Sweet dreams at 06:30pm.
Today is Thursday September 15th 2022, and BidenIdiot is still the worst President in United States history.
I think it’s a little payback for the ridiculous amount of investigations the Democrats did on Trump. I want them to investigate them so much to the point of investigating a Congress person who comes in five minutes late for work. I don’t care because we can’t get a bill through anyway because we still have Joe in the way so might as well make it as uncomfortable for Democrats as we possibly can.
I wonder how much the Bidens received as a payoff?
Is it enough for Hunter Biden to pay child support?
“And then he shot 12 hole-in-ones.”
Biden makes a few phone calls, a few 1 hour trips to Delaware to get his secret elderboost drug fix and BINGO.
