AUSTIN, Texas - California Gov. Gavin Newsom is targeting Texas Gov. Greg Abbott by placing full-page advertisements in three Texas newspapers.
The ads, which ran Friday in the Austin-American Statesman, the Houston Chronicle and the El Paso Times, feature a modified quote from Abbott about Senate Bill 8, which bans abortion in Texas after six weeks.
The quote from Abbott reads "Our creator endowed us with the right to life. And yet…children lose their right to life every year because of abortion. In Texas, we work to save those lives." The ad then shows abortion crossed out with "gun violence" written above it, Texas crossed out with "California" written above it and Greg Abbott's name crossed out with Gavin Newsom's written below it.
Newsom has also previously criticized Abbott about his response to gun violence following the mass shooting in Uvalde that left 19 students and two teachers dead in May.

That’s true. If done correctly.
I think it’s actually tarnishing him. As others have said, it seems childish, pointless and, well, really weird.
CA is sinking! Not fast enough, tho.
I don’t get it is newsome expecting some mail-in votes from Texas?
No. This is Newsome using campaign funds to get ahead start on 2024. He visited the White House while Biden was making a fool of himself in the Middle East. I can tell you first hand, millions of us in California think he is the worst Governor ever. Mr. “Slick” but he is just another politician who says “do this” but doesn’t do it himself.
Some parts of it were.
I remember a relative that lived in Whittier and she was a die hard Nixon person.
Orange County was once conservative, until it was taken by redistricting.
Really? What makes you think that?
If they came from Cali recently they can never be Texans.
Up until 1992, the entire West would always go Republican. Even California.
Not really.
When I was young, Texas was totally Democrat. Carry over from displaced persons and Reconstruction under the Radical Republicans. That lasted 150 years.
Note: I was never a Democrat. My first presidential ballot was cast for Richard Nixon.
True, but back then Texas Democrats were far more conservative than Northeastern Republicans.
I guess when I say West, I mean the West coast states and those adjacent to them, including NM.
I also realize the South largely flipped its political polarity from 1976 - 1992.
Absolutely true.
I agree that you described the West. But remember from a Texan’s point of view. Texas was originally Texas, as on the map today; and parts of NM, OK, CO, KS and WY.
He’s the main reason I finally left CA after 56 years. Now a proud, enthusiastic, and extremely happy resident of rural central Texas.
Maybe that’s true but me and everyone in my family will do our best to prove you wrong.
I used to live in SoCal....
But we never had a guy named Gascon giving cheater's and thieves getting let off for bringing in thousands of potential fatal drugs then....
But Newsom is okay with that.....
And the lady pushing her kid in a carriage...get's run over by a MF'ing gang banger.....and he get's probation for time served.
Damn good thing I don't live there anymore.................
There are always exceptions.
I am trying hard to be one. We didn’t leave CA because Texas is cheaper, we left because of the politics and culture. Texas so far has been a great fit with our way of life. Cheers.
