I guess when I say West, I mean the West coast states and those adjacent to them, including NM.

I also realize the South largely flipped its political polarity from 1976 - 1992.

I agree that you described the West. But remember from a Texan’s point of view. Texas was originally Texas, as on the map today; and parts of NM, OK, CO, KS and WY.
