Looks like Keith Pekau (my preferred candidate) won the GOP primary for Congress. I honestly think Pekau DOES have a shot in the general election (especially if Biden & Pelosi are terribly unpopular and radioactive in November), especially given that he's mayor of Orland Park, which is a HUGE suburb in southwest Crook Co. (granted, Orland is much more conservative than my own suburb and the village board voted 6-0 to ignore Pritzker's mask mandate for restaurants a few months ago).

I'm not sure what the new district lines are, but Casten's predecessor was Peter Roskam and Newman's predecessor was Lipinski, so I don't think the new district necessarily loves hard-left marxists like all the other Chicago-area districts. What's funny is that apparently about 43% of the voters were Newman's old constituents, and only 20% were Casten's, but he easily crushed her anyway (again, probably sympathy vote because his daughter died)

So, if we play our cards right, I could see the "Best case scenario" of being rid of Casten AND Newman next January. Pekau has a shot. Bailey, on other hand... well let's just say my "surefire" predictions have been wrong before!

You were indifferent between Regnier & Carlson?

380 vote margin

Yea, the millions of pro-aborts didn’t storm the polls today. Not even in Colorado

>> You were indifferent between Regnier & Carlson? 380 vote margin <<

I'm not used to being able to pick and choose which is the "best" Republican to nominate for Congress here. I live in a safe RAT district where urban black neighborhoods get to dictate to the rest of the district who our Congressman will be, so for the past 25 years or so, we've just had a SINGLE sacrificial lamb to run against black panther Bobby Rush.

Like most FReepers, I tuned out of this primary and wasn't excited about ANY of the Republicans running, both statewide and locally. It was just annoying background noise. PhilCollins tried to get me to endorse Geno Young months ago, I said "meh" and didn't bother researching the candidates because whoever "wins" the primary will then get crushed in November.

Of course if you DON'T vote in the primary, you can't complain about the crappy choices in November, so a week before the election I decided to research each of 'em and go with the "best" conservative that would have a snowball's chance of hell of hypothetically winning in November.

Even though they've probably redistricted the lines all the way down to Kankakee or whatever by this point, the reality is it still a black majority district, so any white Republican is probably a non-starter and would be lucky to get 12% of black voters to support him/her, even if they are the best candidate in the world. A GOP candidate would probably need to carry at least 1/3rd of black voters in November to somehow 'win' in a district like this, and I don't see a Hurricane Katrina type event where a Joseph Cao type manages to eek in because the black communities in Chicago can't vote or whatever.

Jeff Regnier & Eric Carlson are both white dudes from white suburbs. In an ordinary election, either one would have been perfectly acceptable as the token "sacrificial lamb" so we at least have SOMEONE to vote for in November. But, to quote Shania Twain, "that don't impress me much".

Jeff Regnier sent me some mailers, he seems to be the more "polished" and professional of the two. Says he's a conservative and he most likely is, but I couldn't figure out where he stood on issues like abortion and gun rights, so not nominating anyone unless I'm absolutely sure they're with us on stuff like that.

Eric Carlson is CLEARLY an across-the-board outspoken conservative, sounds like a good guy and I'd be happy to vote for him in November over a commie RAT, but he didn't seem to have any presence on the campaign trail or on social media, and his website suggests "not ready for prime time"

Phil White was the GOP nominee for the district last time, and was running again. Despite the name, I learned a few weeks before the 2020 election that "Phil White" is a black chick. Her previous campaign didn't attract much attention or do better than any white GOP dude, so meh, don't see the point in giving her another shot at it when the first go-around was a dud. Not sure how conservative she is, either. Endorsements from the Log Cabin Republicans and so on. Puke.

That left Geno Young. The guy has been VERY active on social media for months, and had a professional, polish campaign structure (love his campaign logo). I just didn't pay any attention (as I noted, it was just background noise in a "safe" RAT district). He's an UNAPOLOGETIC hardcore conservative, and has some serious street cred as a black musician. Young guy (age 26) with an afro and a beard, I'd LOVE to see the RATS just TRY and accuse him of being an "oreo" because he doesn't agree with their idealogy. He would have been a fun nominee against ANY RAT in the general election. Alas...

Anyway, hope he runs again, maybe for Alderman or something, or as the GOP nominee for this district in 2024 (ideally in a GOP 'wave' election).

I agree that Geno Young should run for another office. I emailed him and Jimmy Lee Tillman. I asked them to run for alderman and mayor, respectively, and endorse each other.

One of the egregious Supreme Court rulings ever!
Dirkson (an Illinois US senator) warned it would be disastrous for Illinois and all other states with large urban centers.

Tillman was a non-starter for me because his mommy was marxist DemocRAT Chicago Alderman Dorothy Tillman (lemme guess, his views are “different” than mommy, like how Jesse Jackson Jr. and Darin LaThug had “different” views than daddy!)

I held my nose for him when he was the GOP nominee for Congress in 2018 because he was saying the right things, and ANYONE would be better than Bobby Rush.

But in a crowded GOP Senate primary, I didn’t give him the time of day. Voted for Kathy Salvi.

Tillman is a lot more conservative than his mom. He wanted to cut tax rates and spending. He’s pro-life and pro-gun rights. He wanted to deport more illegal aliens.

Who should run against Mayor Lightfoot?

The media is so biased, they're reporting on Mary Miller's primary victory with headlines like "GOP Candidate who talked about saving 'white babies' wins primary"

I don't recall any of Biden's wins in 2020 RAT primaries being reported as "Dem candidate who claimed 'poor kids do as well as white kids' wins SC primary"

Screw that $hit. She’s an Establishment RINO phony of epic proportions. The only choice for Conservatives is Andy Ogles.

The parts of Newman’s district in the new district supported Lipinski in the last primary!!! That explains that.

The prodigal has returned to FR. Anyway I voted for.

Governor

Bailey, I worry his cornpone accent (articulate as he is) won’t play well but I didn’t trust Crypto-bro Sullivan or Probably Biden Voting Irvin. He probably can’t win this state but he’d be our first conservative Governor since.....Stratton? He’s a fighter at least. I wanted Rabine but he wasn’t a factor so I didn’t waste my vote.

Senate

Salvi. I did take the “Bobby Piton Challenge” Infool, and I actually like him but I still think he’s a bad candidate for statewide office here. Anyway as polling indicated he wasn’t a factor, it was Salvi or Hubbard, who has no money and who’s website still thinks she’s running against Dick Durbin in 2020. Yikes. As for Jimmy Tillman I accept him as Republican but wasn’t gonna consider him.

AG

DeVore, got a mailer from Pritizer touting how awful he was for suing over mask mandates. That sealed it for me. Did the fat man play me, Billy? I don’t really care, the establishment choice Kim is a retread who was handed his ass by Lisa Madigan 12 years ago.

Sec of State

Brady, not much distinction here. Brady was Durkin’s choice, the other guy was the choice of the rich guy who bankrolled Irvin and then fled the state. He faces Alexi!!!! who’s back from the dead. Probably our best chance at winning a statewide office.

My new congressional district (3) nominated my far left commie state Rep by a wide margin over a more reasonable Aldmerman.....JOY!!!!!

Prickwinkle won her primary 3-1, barf. GOP not running county-wide candidates in Cook for the 3rd straight midterm, I don’t understand the reasoning, they thought it would help Rauner in 2014 by somehow lessening the dem turnout machine.

GOP nominates 1 candidate for 3 Water Reclamation district spots.

On the plus side I have a GOP candidate for State House for the first time ever in 20 years of voting!!!!!!!!!!! Not Senate though.

For GOP House primaries across the state I was for

15: Mary Miller, of course. Davis is RINO douche but I’d have supported him if he stayed in the 13th, he’s a prick for not doing so.

11: Hottie Lauf.

6: Keith Pekau, Grasso had more money but also all the RINO endorsements.

17: King

13: I really didn’t examine them.

Who should run against Lori? Anyone a little bit better than can win. Worst Mayor in our history. One of the worst in US history.

Hey, I don’t think I ever shared the IL map I made on Dave’s Redistricting app with anyone other than DJ

https://davesredistricting.org/maps#viewmap::f29673f6-aaf5-4571-9fc2-3c8b9a262ba2

I didn’t plan it but Foster, Casten, and Underwood were all in the same district!!!!

The seat eliminated is technically the Bobby Rush seat. South and west side Chicago blacks are packed in the new 1st, which is more the old 7th.

Newman would have had the 5th to herself (in terms of living there) but I think Casten would have run there.

I don’t know Billy if you’d be in the 4th with Chuy or in the GOP 3rd.

Heh. That makes me think even more its winnable in the fall, even if it has a D+7 rating or whatever. Casten took over Roskam and Newman took over Lipinski, hardly hard-left commie voters they represented.
