MEYERSDALE, Pennsylvania — Unless either Dr. Mehmet Oz or David McCormick pulls out a miracle between today and Tuesday evening, just over 20% of the Republican primary electorate is going to nominate Kathy Barnette for U.S. Senate.
This would mark the first time in modern Pennsylvania Republican primary history that such a complete unknown wins with no statewide infrastructure to support her candidacy, zero money, and little scrutiny. If she succeeds, she will have upended a race between two capable candidates who, up until a week ago, seemed to be locked in a two-man contest.
This would also mark the first time in Pennsylvania Republican primary history that an insurgent candidate has ever won a primary race. ***

*** There is no state party to rescue Oz or McCormick, because the party didn’t even have the spine to endorse in this race. ***
As a consequence, the party’s decision not to endorse in the governor's or Senate races has had long-reaching implications. By failing to do so, it left a ridiculous number of candidates in the race for both offices — in particular for the governor's race, where nine candidates stayed in long past their expiration date. This allowed the eccentric, far-right Doug Mastriano to suck up all of the oxygen.
In short, if Barnette wins — and everything at this moment points in that direction — she will undoubtedly run shoulder to shoulder with Mastriano. They’ve endorsed each other, they campaign together all the time, and they hold the same outsider standing — even outside of Trumpworld.
It is hard to find any pathway where either of them will win in November, even in the remarkable conditions available to Republican candidates right now.

PA Freepers: can this be right? No way for either Mastriano or Barnette to win?
Yeah right. She's being questioned at every turn.
Oh the crime of a regular person winning a nomination. This is not supposed to happen in the One Party system.
Eat that stuff and it makes you stupid.
It ain't over til it's over . . .
You mean a Turkish muzzie is having trouble winning a primary, even with Pres. Trump’s support?
Didn’t expect this from Zito.
Exposed.
You might want to wait for the primary to be over before you do your victory dance, just sayin.
“””What’s the matter with Pennsylvania?”””
I don’t believe there is any problem with Pennsylvania.
The PA voters are the battleground in the Battle of the Titans.
On one side you have the Trump MAGA.
On the other side you have the RINO/GLOBALIST Republicans.
In case no one has noticed there is a war between the Trumpians and the RINO/GLOBALISTs.
The problem is that when insurgents win the primary, the RINOs refuse to support them and, instead, work to help the Democrat.
The Stepford Wives in suburbia plus the urban Philly and Pitt are the problem.

The same people who said Trump is unelectable are the same ones who say Barnette is unelectable. However, I am not sure she is a good candidate.
“She’s being questioned at every turn.”
She could answer the questions on her military service.
If they win with no noticeable power structure behind them I submit they may be destined for great things by an un-noticeable power - a power from above and beyond!! I don’t know about the candidates but I do know that power, known as the Creator of heaven and earth does intervene in earthly matters.
It’s Pennsylvania for goodness sake. It’s Pat Toomey’s seat. Take what you can get. Oz is 100% better than Fetterman.
I have no idea if Barnette will win on Tuesday. But I really do hope that someone other than Mehmet Oz wins the primary. I do NOT trust Mehmet ... never have. And he has done nothing to improve my view of him during this primary race. An opportunist w/o core conservative principles.
Sometimes it’s so hard to be a Republican.
Only time will tell, but I am sure that the other two she's up against are whores of one flavor or another.
This is the Bush League saying any candidate they don’t approve of can’t win, then they will make sure that happens by assisting the Democrat.
They’ve done it repeatedly.
They did it to Trump.
