"...Romney is an utterly PHONY so called Christian AND he is a HUGE POS!!..."

Romney is a Mormon....Mormons are, well, Mormons.

Not spirit filled Christians.

There, I said it....

Maybe that’s why everyone was avoiding Joe.

The first black woman justice on the Supreme Court should have been Janice Rodgers Brown.

... On the condition that she is required to take a masters level biology course so that she has some idea of what a woman is.

To think that Senators bend over for color over integrity. Disgusting is right.

At this rate, despite the constitution, gay black communist men born abroad, with underage mothers and foreign fathers someday will be able to become president. Look how far we have come.

I figured that out when I was seven by playing “doctor” with a girl underneath someone’s porch.

EVERY Senator who voted for her has violated their Oath of Office.

They violated their oath? Are you serious, are you this naïve? Along the lines of "Have you no honor sir". Take your head out of the 1870s pal.

Big nothing-burger. Which judge is she replacing? Oh, right, NONE OF THEM BECAUSE NONE OF THEM HAVE STEPPED DOWN YET.

He’s announced his retirement. Simple. She won’t be installed until he retires this Summer.

There is no current vacancy, so there's no position for anyone to be nominated to. This vote means nothing.

Why not just push a 'nominee' vote for every current justice, since they'll all retire at some point? Queue up your guys, and prevent future Presidents from nominating their guys?

Of course they all retire - or die - at some point. But this one has announced his intention to retire at the end of the current term. He had said more than once that he didn’t want to die on the court.

Do you think something would change the outcome, if they waited until this Summer?

That's irrelevant. He hasn't actually retired yet, there is no vacancy for anyone to be nominated to. What if he changes his mind and waits longer? What happens to her "approved nomination"?

Sure, waiting til summer (or even next week) might change the outcome - what if deaths, resignations, recalls, party swaps, or other stuff change what the vote would have been if they waited? What if more information comes out and some yeas want to change their votes to nays?

And as I originally asked - why not do this for every single nominated position, ever? Whoever is in charge can guarantee all their people get placed by lining up replacements ready to go, before they get too controversial and while they have full party control! ... How long do these psuedo-appointments last? Forever (until the replacement happens)? A year? 'Til next full election? Next half-elections? How does a later Congress or President rescind one of these? Can they even do that? There's a particular process legally for filling these vacancies, and pre-emptively putting people in the slot is certainly not valid.

I’m sorry, it doesn’t seem unusual to me to nominate and confirm someone when a justice has announced his imminent retirement.

Breyer himself was nominated months before Blackmun actually left his seat, and confirmed days before. I wasn’t paying a lot of attention then, but I don’t remember any controversy about that. I think another Justice tendered his resignation to become effective upon the confirmation of a successor - which, due to various issues, didn’t finally take place until about a year later.

In recent decades, many more justices have retired rather than died in office. Nominating before an actual vacancy will probably happen more often, as lifespan has increased.

The ‘vote’ is only ‘historic’ in that it clearly demonstrates that the left (i.e., Joe Biden and his ilk) are still rooted in the soft bigotry of low expectations, and to demonstrate to the sheep that support them that only certain qualifiers (e.g., race, vagina, etc.) need be considered and pandered to. That’s the ‘historic’ part of the vote. Just more 400 years BS.
