He’s announced his retirement. Simple. She won’t be installed until he retires this Summer.
There is no current vacancy, so there's no position for anyone to be nominated to. This vote means nothing.
Why not just push a 'nominee' vote for every current justice, since they'll all retire at some point? Queue up your guys, and prevent future Presidents from nominating their guys?

Of course they all retire - or die - at some point. But this one has announced his intention to retire at the end of the current term. He had said more than once that he didn’t want to die on the court.
Do you think something would change the outcome, if they waited until this Summer?
