Climate change is upon us and humanity is far from ready, the United Nations climate science panel warned in a major report on Monday.
Noting that nearly half the world's population was already vulnerable to increasingly dangerous climate impacts, the report calls for drastic action on a huge scale: A third to a half of the planet needs to be conserved to ensure future food and freshwater supplies. Coastal cities need plans to keep people safe from storms and rising seas. And more.
"Adaptation saves lives," U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said with the report's release. "As climate impacts worsen – and they will – scaling up investments will be essential for survival... Delay means death."
The 3,675-page report is the latest in a series by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) detailing the global consensus onclimate science.
On nearly all counts, the report makes clear that climate change is impacting the world far faster than scientists had anticipated. Meanwhile, countries have failed to rein in planet-warming carbon emissions, which continue to rise.
"Unchecked carbon pollution is forcing the world's most vulnerable on a frogmarch to destruction," Guterres said in a video address Monday. "The facts are undeniable. This abdication of leadership is criminal."

The original microbes that developed oxygen-based metabolism and photosynthesis converted the earth atmosphere from a hydrogen-sulfide, carbon-dioxide mix into the present 19.5 percent oxygen mix.

Turn a blank sheet of paper sideways. On the left side write “weather event” in small letters, draw a circle around the words, and then draw a small arrow pointing to the right side of the paper. On the far right, write the words ‘man made global warming” in small letters, draw a circle around the words, and then draw a small arrow pointing to the circle with those words.
Now is there not a large amount of blank space in the middle? How often do you see a story which fills in this area? How often do words like sun and ocean appear?

Question: Why did they change the movement’s goal from preventing “global warming” to preventing “climate change”?
Answer: Because global average temperatures have actually declined since 2009.
No one doubts the fact that atmospheric CO2 has some effect on surface temperatures. The point is that it is insignificant compared to other factors like water vapor, solar cycles, and Earth’s axis tilt. The predictions of temperature increases based on computer models have all been wildly wrong because the atmosphere is a non-linear coupled system (chaotic) and our predictions are worthless at this point. Apocalyptic environmentalism is religion, not science.
