Pentagon orders company to stop making faith-based dog tags

Kenny Vaughan’s company, Shields of Strength, has been making dog tags for nearly 20 years and has been a tremendous blessing to countless military men and women.

But that day has now come to an end after the Pentagon has just given the faith-based company stop making dog tags for those in the Military. The reason for the order comes as an organization called the Military Religious Freedom Foundation complained to the Pentagon, stating that the Army and Marines want Shields of Faith to stop making the dog tags this way.

“We are not anti-faith, we are pro-Constitution,” said Mikey Weinstein who leads the Military Religious Freedom Foundation. He calls the dog tags a violation of defense department regulations and the constitution by combining scripture with official military emblems, even though Vaughan had licensing permission from three of the five branches of service to use their emblems.

“The letter of the law states that you cannot do this because that would be in this case breaching the separation of church and state and applying, in this case, an endorsement by the Department of Defense and military branches on a clearly proselytizing message,” Weinstein said.

Vaughn became emotional when speaking of his companies mission statement. According to CBN News, He stated: “Soldiers and Marines love having God’s word around their necks it encourages them and strengthens them for their fight,” Vaughan said.

Vaughan has made hundreds of thousands of these dog tags for US military men and women, many of them, he says, for free. Air Force and Marine veteran Kenneth Davis explains what the dog tags mean to him. “This is believing that you’re going to live,” Davis said. “And even if you die, you’re going to be holding hands with God for eternity. That’s what it means to me and every veteran I know, it means the same.”

Military Religious Freedom Foundation complained to the Pentagon

They read the First Amendment to say "Freedom FROM religion".

Someone set up a funding site and let’s sue this organization into the Stone Age,

It is NOT unconstitutional and this is just more encroaching Marxism by Marxist hate groups that bully other people.

A line must be drawn here.

This is true if by "letter of the law" you mean "crackpot misinterpretation of a phrase from a letter by Thomas Jefferson taken grossly out of context".

Maybe Liberty Counsel will take this on. We support them and receive their reports. They’re involved in some pretty heavy issues/cases.

Why should it matter as long as the troops want the scriptures? Those who don’t want them can opt out of the printing, right?

An organization thought up just for one purpose, and weak one at that.

I wonder how long before they demand the Chaplin’s be removed.

How can the Pentagon tell them to stop making them?
Now, they could start punishing service members for wearing them but to say you can’t make them?
Can’t they make whatever they please?

Do some research on the “non profit” Military Religious Freedom Foundation. It is very small with an annual budget of about $700,000 per year. Its CEO Weinstein receives compensation of over $300,000 per year. He seems to be on a personal crusade to eliminate anything even remotely related to Christianity from the military, military bases, etc. He has filed complaints when military commanders mention God, pray, etc.

Like many leftist the concept of personal choice is foreign to him. The fact that an individual hearing a religious comment, or seeing a religious symbol can simply turn away is not enough. Religious “speech” and religious symbols must be banned so the small minority offended can feel safe.

Weinstein’s organization is insignificant in size, economic power, and donors. Yet the military itself gives him significant power to destroy opportunity and freedom for those who are religious. It is long past time for politicians, judges and leaders to just say “NO” to people like Weinstein.

Not sure what to think here.

The story doesn’t say-are these official dog tags issued by the military, and they give them the option of having scripture on them? If so, I would object as well.

Having your name, serial number, DOB, blood type, and religion on there are fine. If these are official dog tags meant to be worn in situations, that is all they should have. They are functional.

However, if these are aftermarket dog tags, that people are buying and wearing instead of their official ones, I have to side with the military. I would feel the same way whether it was scripture or Black lives matter BS.

Just my opinion.

Mikey Weinstein is indeed a Communist and also a JINO that despises Christians and their faith. He justifies his hatred based upon false, unfounded and never reported claims of anti-Semitism that he experienced as a cadet at the USAFA.

No different than the Communist heathens at the ACLU and SPLC.
