Peacock Network’s costly event shed 49% of viewers from 2016 Rio Games
NBC’s primetime coverage of the Tokyo Olympics continued to spiral downward on Monday, averaging 14.7 million viewers for a 49% drop compared to the equivalent night from the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games.

Reason you watch is to see your country win. If the athletes don’t support your country, then why the hell support them?
I grew up with Jim McKay and gang doing the olympics. It’s been a long downhill slide since NBC took over. The last opening summer ceremonies I watched was London in 2012 and by then actual events were no longer must see viewing. The winter games swan song for me was Sochi. It was a good run I suppose but the games are dead to me and are now part of the cultural landscape wreckage that is the woke world.
“ Rats ruin everything they touch.”
They are going rose than Ebola.
“sucks to be NBC...
guess Americans don’t want to watch a bunch of woke backstabbers...
Although I hear in the shooting sports we did well.”
I thought that way too. BUT a bunch of spoiled women soccer players, NVA scum, and a woke gymnast is not the US team. We are kicking butt again though not in men’s 7 rugby. NZ and Fiji are the best.
Will watch women tonight.
I am so tired of a few woke morons trying to ruin things for everyone.

I understand, but you missed some good things. The swimming events have been routinely exciting, and oddly enough, I enjoyed watching four Irish women win the bronze medal in rowing.
I thought the surfing was pretty cool but I admit that I watched the replay on YouTube.
Consequences:
I will NEVER eat another Subway sandwich. This chain caters to the America hating, Lesbian customer base with ME-Again Rapinoe their commercial spokesperson.
PROVING once again that Woke, Liberal, Homosexual, Democrats DOMINATE the public relations\advertising\HR\Social Media departments of most companies.
I’ll bet there will be a scandal someday soon about TV ratings fraud. Who watches TV news anymore? You can tell by all the pharma commercials, choice of anchors and some of the content. Older people and non-intellectuals who don’t get their news quickly on the Internet.
It’s not convenient. Back when you turned on the B&W Monkey Wards Portable T.V. you hat the big 3 and a few UHF... now you have to.oat tge cabke, subscribe to the correct channel, all at a cost, all inconvenient.
Heck I havent seen a baseball game since the analog to digital cutover.
I’ve been watching Roger Moore as The Saint on DVD most evenings.
I've no idea what that means but if it hurts NBC I'm all for it.
I hope no one watches. NBC hates the U.S.A., and loves showing U.S.A. hating athletes.
In essence what this means is that they will run ADDITIONAL commercials until they make up the deficit numbers originally paid for by the advertisers.
Simply put... what this means is longer commercial breaks and MORE of them.
Ok, so I did watch dressage the other morning, maybe 15-20 minutes tops ... as a former dressage rider, I wanted to see the horses. At least the horses aren’t wearing BLM gear & taking knees.
Ads are horrible and way too frequent - I’m wearing out the mute button. Only ad I’ve seen that I listened to was for Chevy Silverado - guy has a cat instead of a dog ... hunts, herds, fetches from water ... LOL!
Good!
I haven’t watched at all because of the un-American attitudes of the USA competitors.
What Olympics?
Hey! I want me some more wokeness. Yea...
My wife watches television, but I don’t. Once in a while, she will call out that there is movie on that she knows I like, and asks if I want to watch it.
Sometimes I do, until it hits the first commercial. Then, if I was enjoying watching it, I simply rent it.
I can’t stomach television at all. Haven’t watched since 1995-1998 sometime.
Alberta’s explanation is roughly correct. To that I would add that the ‘compensation’ or ‘make good’ often can’t just be running the ad after The Late Show over and over until the numbers are made up - no, they often have to be in the *same* time slot as the original one paid for, attached to a show of at least roughly equal draw (in both viewer numbers and demographics). That can be a tough thing to do, and they may not meet promised views there either - in which case they must offer more make goods or *gasp* actually give money back.
Another thing that has changed in the past two decades is that the Nielsen Ratings are no longer the major arbitrator of who is watching - for the networks and the advertisers. Networks can no longer point to the Nielsen families’ viewing stats and claim that the extrapolated viewership is what a particular ad got. Every single set-top box from a cable or fiber TV network, from a satellite TV network, every app used to watch on-demand - all of them report back what people are watching, how long they are watching, what they skip over (if they do) and when they turn off. They have far more definite numbers on how many people are watching and see an ad. No more fudging on the part of the major networks, and advertisers are holding them to that now.
