I used to live watching the olympics as a kid - now it’s filled with RAT poison

Well folks in California and the west coast had an 8 hour time difference. That is quiet a bit.

Suggest summer games always be held in Greece. Avoids all the nonsense of who hosts, the payments, etc.

Americans don’t want to watch Americans compete so poorly due to angst over imaginary racism, sexism, you-name-it-ism.

Its unwatchable... and partly because of the commercials...

Seriously...

I am no avid fan, but have turned it on once or twice... I get what seems like 5 minutes of actual competition followed by what seems 5-8 minutes of commercials.

I have no idea what the actual numbers are, but during prime time that’s certainly what it seems like the few times I’ve turned it on.

Forget all the woke nonsense, forget all the invented and pushed human interest narratives being shoveled trying to manufacture drama....

Its just not watchable.

Oh and let’s not forget NO CROWDS.... so even when something interesting happens, you have no fans to react to or feed off it... so that adds to the boringness of it.

This is why I stopped watching all TV many years ago.

Even the athletes don’t care.

Agreed, but it’s 13 hours for US ET, 10 hours for US PT.

Olympics? I thought that they were cancelled.
Not in my plans to watch, not at all.

Re: 26 - Unknown.

And I said “some”, as I fully acknowledge that the wokeism that some US athletes have embraced is a real turnoff to a large group of Americans.

Who wants to watch a fascist dictatorship compete for medals?

Bingo!
Good to hear the very woke US women's soccer team and men's basketball team get beaten though.

By-and-large, the Women’s Events are a DISGRACE and enough to turn off a lot of viewers who then turn off the Games. Can hardly blame them.

Political Correctness and the disgusting Women’s Movement destroys everything in its path.

Please translate this statement for ordinary humans living on planet Earth.

The statement comes from the posted article. I believe it means that advertisers are demanding compensation for their loss of revenue because the ratings have not met contracted for levels.

The prime time NBC Olympic Broadcast is unwatchable with the amount of ads.

I have been watching Volleyball, Softball, Fencing, and a couple of other sports on USA, NBCSports, and CNBC. That at least seems to have the standard rate of ads at decent intervals compared to action.

I even watched a decent basketball game between Slovenia and Argentina the other day... first non NCAA hoop I’ve watched since May 2020.

NBC’s coverage of the Womens’ gymnastic team championship was mediocre at best. After S. Biles pulled out, our team was left with only three competitors. That meant that each had to perform on all 4 exercises, and although they are all very good all-around athletes, they had not planned on doing so. Each had been given a task as to which apparatus they would be expected to do. Only Simone was expected to do all four of the routines. When she pulled out that meant the onus was on the other 3 gals. They ‘stepped up to the plate”, so to speak, and did an excellent job, holding on to the silver medal position. They ought to be celebrated for their silver medal, but, no, NBC did very little to congratulate the silver medal which three USA athletes won at these Olympic games. They kept talking about Simone all the time, when the actual competitors were largely ignored.

I don’t blame Simone Biles about it, as I do think she must have been in a bad place mentally to pullout. The way the team scores are tallied, Simone performing on all 4 apparatuses in a mediocre way would have pulled the entire team down to a non-competitive stage. Hooray for Lee, Chiles and McCallum for their excellent determination and guts to finish with only a 3-woman team.

****************

Most TV is a string of commercials interspersed with brief segments of content. The networks and their sponsors are laughing their asses off at the stupidity of the public.
