A black physician in Indianapolis has died with Covid-19 weeks after she accused a doctor of denying her proper medical care because of her race.
In a video from her bed at Indiana University Hospital North, Susan Moore said she had to "beg" for treatment.
Offering its condolences, the hospital said it took accusations of discrimination very seriously but could not comment on specific patients.
Black people are at greater risk from Covid than white people, studies show.
Dr Moore, 52, passed away at another local hospital on Sunday.
In her 4 December post on Facebook, she described how her pain had been downplayed by the doctor, whom she said was white, though she had been crying and having difficulty breathing.
Dr Moore tested positive for Covid-19 on 29 November and was admitted with a high fever while she coughed up blood and struggled to breathe. But even as a physician herself, she said she had struggled with getting care.
Dr Moore wrote she had requested a medical advocate and had asked to be transferred elsewhere. She was eventually discharged but had to return hours later after experiencing a drop in blood pressure and fever.
"This is how black people get killed," Dr Moore said. "When you send them home and they don't know how to fight for themselves."
Dr Moore's experience and death has sparked an outcry over US healthcare disparities faced by black Americans.

Are there more White or black Covid deaths in the world?
Also did they use Math, which is systemically racist and a Patriarchal tool of the White binary pronoun using Devil, to reach such a conclusion?

I don’t know the study, but blacks more frequently live in cities and eat garbage food. Personal responsibility and impulse control isn’t their strong suit. Even a Dr is running her pie hole based on what?
How does she know what it’s like to be White, whatever that even means...

I read the article and it didn’t say what kind of doc she was.
As for this lady, this is tragic, but I don't know if they were dismissive because she was black. The hospitals across the US seem strangely unwilling to administer therapeutics to anyone. My step-dad, who is 73, and had a quadruple by-pass some years ago, came down with Covid in October. He was sick, coughing up a storm, exhausted... They tested him, said it was positive, and sent him home to quarantine. They gave him NOTHING. Nothing.
Happily, he recovered, but we are living in very weird times.
If Vitamin D deficiency puts someone at increased risk from WuFlu, then people with more skin pigmentation could very well be at increased risk.
Wonder if she was taking Vitamin D. If so, her weight may have put her at far more risk than her skin pigmentation. Especially if she was a diabetic.
They have been dying at a higher rate that whites. Hispanics have as well. I don’t know if they have made any direct genetic connections, such as the prevalence of Ace-2 receptors, but they are more likely to be vitamin D deficient and to be obese with other comorbidities.
What is odd here is that a doctor wouldn’t have her affiliated hospital giving her premium care ASAP (or that she hadn’t been taking HCQ or another prophylactic).
Vitamin D is the key. If you don’t take supplements, we rely on sunlight to produce in our bodies. Darker skinned people have more melanin in their skin which prevents the production of Vitamin D. It’s a disadvantage for this disease. 80% of people with Covid are Vitamin D deficient.
Why everyone is not taking Vitamin D is beyond me.
Also, Remdesivir, though very expensive, hasn’t been shown to reduce Covid deaths at all.
If she was diabetic and that raises hob with pulse oximetry, she and/or her own docs might have not thought she was in as much danger until it was too late.
If she really died of and not with WuFlu.
Problem with Vitamin D supplements can be absorbtion.
Take enough and enough vets absorbed.
Look at any of the stats on deaths in the US by race. It is dramatic. Tricky, however, because they want to be able to use the racism charge without whites realizing just how low their risk of death is.
And you could also get Vitamin D toxicity.
Ideally, best to get it from sun and a healthy diet with supplements as a backup.
