The company permanently suspended thousands of accounts associated with the fringe conspiracy theory movement. Facebook was said to be preparing to take similar action.
OAKLAND, Calif. Twitter said Tuesday evening that it had removed thousands of accounts that spread messages about the conspiracy theories known as QAnon, saying their messages could lead to harm and violated Twitter policy.
Twitter said it would also block trends related to the loose network of QAnon conspiracy theories from appearing in its trending topics and search, and would not allow users to post links affiliated with the theories on its platform.
It was the first time that a social media service took sweeping action to remove content affiliated with QAnon, which has become increasingly popular on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.
Facebook is preparing to take similar steps to limit the reach of QAnon content on its platform, said two Facebook employees with knowledge of the plans, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. The company has been coordinating with Twitter and other social media companies and plans to make and announcement next month, the employees said. Facebook declined to comment.
The QAnon theories stem from an anonymous person or group of people who use the name Q and claim to have access to government secrets that reveal a plot against President Trump and his supporters. That supposedly classified information was initially posted on message boards before spreading to mainstream internet platforms and has led to significant online harassment as well as physical violence.

Ping!...................
Yes those violent Q supporters are rioting and looting everywhere.
Oh wait, no they're not.
Trump and the GOP-controlled Congress had their chance to break up these terrible tech giants, and chose not to.
But Antifa accounts are ok.......
Pretty much the definition of anti-trust. Too bad we don't have an Attorney General that cares about such things.
do you have a link or two?
Polly mentions Qanon. if you don’t have time to watch it all, watch from 30m in. Clinton Foundation staffer/Bain/McKinsey around 35m.

I don’t think it was really Gandhi who said it, but it’s still pretty true — “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win”
THREAT!THREAT! Will Robinson.
You made the accusation. Do you have any links to back it up?
You made the accusation. Do you have any links to back it up?
Oh, please. By that standard, there is violence “linked” to every group and idea on the planet. That excuse doesn’t fly. And the terrorism conducted by BLM and Antifa is a whole different thing that involves many more people and a lot more planning and coordination. QAnon is nonsense, but it doesn’t deserve to be banished from Twitter.
Exactly! If you're going to ban Qtards, then you need to ban anybody still spewing nonsense about the "Russians". And how about banning the race hoaxers? How about banning the army of paid PLA trolls?
Twitter needs to lose "platform" status, and all the protections that go with it.
I wonder how many of their listeners have any clue who or what QANON is.
