Instead of Criticizing McCain, Trump Should Embrace Kindness, Humility

President Donald Trump made a rare appearance at a church last Sunday. It’s a safe bet the sermon was not based on Proverbs 15:1—”A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” If it was, it didn’t appear to have much effect.

Before and after church, the president engaged in a tweet storm that insulted several people, including the late Sen. John McCain.

Trump accuses McCain of being complicit in the leak of the Steele dossier, a private intelligence report compiled by former MI6 officer Christopher Steele for the political research firm Fusion GPS, which, among other things, alleges that in Moscow Donald Trump booked ” … the presidential suite of the Ritz Carlton Hotel, where he knew President and Michelle Obama (whom he hated) had stayed on one of their official trips to Russia,” and, while in the company of prostitutes, defiled the bed.

According to Newsweek, ” … major parts of the dossier have been verified by subsequent investigations into Russian election meddling.” Trump’s behavior at the Ritz Carlton in Moscow, however, remains unverified.

The president referred to McCain as “last in his class at Annapolis.” This was too much for McCain’s daughter, Meghan, who said on “The View” that the president is leading “a pathetic life,” adding, “He spends his weekend obsessing over great men, because he knows it, and I know it, and all of you know it, he will never be a great man.”

This is the problem with insults and anger. They invite similar responses. Nothing is affected by harshness, except a general degrading of the office and of the people who shoot rhetorical arrows at others.

GW wanted to “ be better than that”, to “not dignify that with an answer”, to “stay presidential”. What did it get him? Approval ratings driven into the thirties by the lying scum Democrat Media.
The Never Trump squishes whine about the President tweeting, if he stopped tweeting they would rationalize a dozen other reasons to oppose him. They can’t or won’t admit they are wrong and that Trump is our best man since Reagan.

When President Trump says things like McCain is complicit in the bogus “collusion” claims against McCain, McCain’s vote saved Obamacare in spite of promises he made, McCain left the disabled wife who waited for him while he was in VN for a younger, rich heiress and McCain armed and supported terrorists in Syria, it can’t be refuted. But when President Trump says McCain is an evil traitor (or something to that effect), it gives the maniacs an opening to bring up the “war hero” stuff. It’s a debating technique, to not open that door to a defense.

Trump is destroying the false McCain legacy for history. History must not record that McCain is a hero. McCain was a despicable individual who’s fame results from being shot down in a fit of temper tantrum.

The defense by his pathetic daughter is all about her. She is because she thinks he actually was

By giving him that much, we come across as more reasonable, and it doesn’t save his reputation. Adding to that “and he came home and deserted his disabled wife for a young heiress” erases that legacy while acknowledging it.

In March 2009 McCain wrote an article for The Daily Beast titled "My Beef With Ann Coulter." In this article, she questioned Republican support for conservative author and columnist Ann Coulter.^[23] While Coulter did not respond, conservative radio talk show host Laura Ingraham challenged McCain's article by comparing her to a "Valley Girl." Ingraham also mocked McCain: "Ok, I was really hoping that I was going to get that role in The Real World, but then I realized that, well, they don't like plus-sized models."^[24] McCain responded to Ingraham in a second article for The Daily Beast titled "Quit Talking About My Weight, Laura Ingraham": "Instead of intellectually debating our ideological differences about the future of the Republican Party, Ingraham resorted to making fun of my age and weight, in the fashion of the mean girls in high school."^[25] McCain also stated on The View that she thought the change in discourse toward her body was "terrible" and further argued, "When Tyra Banks went on her show in a bathing suit and said 'kiss my fat ass,' that's what I feel like. Kiss my fat ass!"^[26] Ingraham responded by calling McCain a "useful idiot."^[27] During a later interview on Larry King Live, McCain said that as far as she is concerned, "with what's going on with Laura Ingraham, on my end, it's over."

After John McCain campaign fixture Joe the plumber made some anti-gay remarks (saying he would not have "queers ... anywhere near my children") in mid-2009, Meghan McCain took aim at him, saying "Joe the plumber—you can quote me—is a dumbass. He should stick to plumbing."^[36]

 

On September 1, 2018, she delivered a eulogy at her father's funeral at Washington National Cathedral. In an emotional eulogy to her father, McCain mourned her father's passing as the “passing of American greatness, the real thing." In what was widely seen as a sharp rebuke of Donald Trump,
