BRUSSELS - Belgian police detained more than 400 people on Saturday after “yellow vest” protesters inspired by riots in France threw rocks and firecrackers and damaged shops and cars as they tried to reach official buildings in Brussels.

In the second violence of its kind in the capital in eight days, a crowd which police estimated at around 1,000 faced riot squads who used water cannon and tear gas to keep people away from the European Union headquarters and the nearby Belgian government quarter. Calm was restored after about five hours.

The movement in Belgium, inspired by the “gilets jaunes”, or yellow vest, protests in neighboring France over the past month, has given voice to complaints about the cost of living and demanded the removal of Belgium’s center-right coalition government, six months before a national election is due in May.

“Belgium’s center-right coalition”? Are they trying hard to make it sound like it’s a protest against a conservative government?

Euro police can conduct mass arrests on yellow vest, tax protesters but not Muslim invaders when they do the same thing. Go figure.

Little folk in the EU cannot vote the elite out of office, even though all they ever voted in was economic cooperation. Some regions have voted for independence....it's ignored. If they elect someone who promises to get out from under in the EU (ex Greece), the new leaders are bought off. It seems the only country not bought off (yet!) is Hungary. Eastern Europe seems to have bought into cooperation with EU/NATO as their way to salvation. Are they insane? How did that work for Khadafi and Libya?

Here, the treatment of President Trump and voters with conservative, Constitutional values demonstrates that we no longer elect leaders and have control over government decisions. Any country that wants to get out from under the economic clutches of National Banks and of the system in place for selling oil is declared evil and gotten out of office, ruthlessly if necessary. And still, the puppet masters have us convinced that "Russia, Russia, Russia" is the problem.

Think about it folks. In the US and Europe, we're no longer free people who have a voice in our futures. If we try to, payback is ruthless. It's been a pretty good run of about 500 years for our civilization and its accomplishments. I don't see how this ends well. We either go along and become more impoverished and less free or we do it the European way, which could end civilization as we know it. (sigh)

I cannot recall a real revolution that didn’t improve things for the average punter, once the smoke had cleared and the guillotines were scrubbed down and put in storage until the next time.

Revolutions are not meant to promote comfort in the status quo. Our self-anointed global elites need cleansed. Globally.

I don’t disagree with anything you say from a historical perspective. But consider the impacts of globalization, dependence on technology, and less people having survival skills. I wonder if the transition wouldn’t be something akin to what Black Plague did to Europe.

Maybe it will take a revolution for people to wake up and gain those survival skills. It would be a vast improvement if they learned to handle their own infrastructure repairs.

Tech will survive. Too many people understand how it works and how to build/maintain and repair it.

The idiots could use YT to learn a lot of important skills. I have done so, as have countless others.

This is not a Black Plague-type event. And, even if it was, after the Plague came the most prosperous time the Europeans of that era had ever seen.

Amazing, but for centuries humans survived and thrived without cheap products from around the world, streaming entertainment, central heating and universal plumbing.

Comfort (so-called security) without liberty is hollow. It is the default of slaves and goes all the way back to Exodus, if not before. It is the golden calf.

What I find curious about these rebellions like we see in Paris and Brussels is that the police always seem to side with the government against the protesters.

Rioters north of 40? Sounds like a bunch of workers who’ve been paying taxes into the system all their working lives have finally had it up to ears!

Just following orders. Could we expect anything different here?

We do it by not attacking the governing powers directly but by pressuring the hidden guys. We protest the banks, the bankers in their gated communities, their houses and the intermediate governmental agencies that are doing the real dirty work. The Governmental Executive Service that supposedly vets the deepstaters for directorship type positions in the Fed Gov is one such agency that needs exposure to the light of day......we can tea party protest them as well. Lets send the director of that group a yellow vest....let him or her know we are watching them. I don’t think the vast majority of the congress is corrupt but I think they feel as though they are besieged by an entrenched bureaucracy and intel apparatus that has become a fourth branch of government.

Perhaps the American people need to relieve the congress, the senate, the president and the courts of the influence of such people by spotlighting the crazy little intermediate dictators of the deep bureaucratic state. O’keefe made a good start by video recording one such creep who suddenly isn’t working in his position anymore(probably reassigned anyway ‘till the heat clears).

The best way to control an octopus one doesn’t want to totally destroy is to cut off a few of its appendages...that way it can be more easily controlled by the true branches of government. An octopi may grow back some appendages but these will then be more easily controlled if the Octopi of government is once again carefully managed!

Brussels. So they are protesting who? The EU government or the Belgium government?

There are two governments in Belgium..one is Walloon and the other is Flemish.
