New research shows that all blue-eyed people share a common ancestor. This person lived more than 6,000 years ago and carried a genetic mutation that has now spread across the world.
The exact cause remains to be determined but scientists do know that eye color began to change long before recorded history began. The following is a transcript of the video.
All blue-eyed people have one ancestor in common, born around 6,000-10,000 years ago. Blue eyes are caused by a gene mutation. For years, researchers had searched for it on the OCA2 gene. The OCA2 gene determines how much brown pigment is in our eyes. But what they were looking for wasn't there at all.

Sadly, it appears she is a fraud. Many of the modeling photos she presented as her own were lifted from other models' pages. Most depressing of all, internet sleuths have presented compelling evidence that her blue eye is nothing more than a colored contact lens.

And selection for carriers of the blue eyed gene, even as recessives, resulted in it spreading faster.

When I was 5, 6, or 7 I met the dog that played Rin Tin Tin. His trainer and the dog were at a motel in Los Angeles (don’t remember exactly where) spending the night. My soon to be step father was living in one of the bungalows at the motel. There was a large green area in the middle of the motel and I was out there playing when the man and the dog came out of their room to do their business. Of course I went....oooohhhh dogggg! lol Anyway, my mom came out and took me over there. I petted the dog and mom took pics of me with him. No clue what happened to the pics. Long gone.

A fraud ? The contact may be a fraud (although it’s a remarkably believable contact, since colored contacts almost inevitably look fake trying to do blue), but that body ain’t. I’d be more than happy to console her for being naughty.
Used to be I was a pro at that stuff.

Because similar mutations are simply not possible.
I’m the only blue eyed member of my family. Both my parents and my three siblings (2 sisters/1 brother) all have brown or hazel eyes. Thru recent Ancestry DNA Testing BOTH my parents are my parents (LOL) as I have DNA relations from both parents families.
I am 1/4 Norwegian so it is likely from that, even though my 1/2 Norwegian Dad had brown eyes with dark blond/light brown hair. My Scottish/British/Spanish Mom had coal black hair with hazel eyes. All my siblings have brown eyes except me with my baby blues. Me and my siblings all started out with light blond hair as kids that got darker blond/brown as we aged, taking after our Dad and typical Scandinavian, but I was the only one with blue eyes.
It would surprise me if one common ancestor only 6,000 years ago could be responsible for giving a half billion people a recessive gene. The previous theory of Neanderthals having fair skin and blue eyes for 500,000 years and then integrating with homo sapiens seems far likelier.
Actually he was only sentenced to 9 1/2 years, and is the same age as President Trump. There seems to be a strong political motive for getting him convicted.
My late husband had intensely light blue eyes. He was red haired, pink skinned, big boned and very muscular. A weak chin and heavy brow, and short intense temper. After all this Neanderthal stuff came out I concluded he had at least 4% if not more Neanderthal blood. Genetically he was Scotch/Viking. About 40% of northern British have the “ginger gene”. I have hazel eyes with some green, some brown, and some dark blue. Both of our sons have deeply brown eyes. I need to check on the eye color of 4 grandchildren and the wives. I had a semester of genetics in college. Many do not know that there is a progression in the strength of gene alleles. I think that light blue is the most recessive, Asian brown next most recessive, and other colors less recessive but I don’t have a guess as to in what order. I have some Asiatic tartar blood from my Prussian German petit nobility ancestry on my mother’s side. What I think allowed the dark brown of my sons’ eyes is that they each got the recessive brown Asian gene from me (with the European genes providing my hazel color), and the most recessive pale blue eye gene from my husband which was submerged by the stronger Asian brown gene.
Regarding the rapid spread of the light eye gene, it could be from Neanderthals or a later source. At any rate blue eyes usually go with fair skin and fair skin especially in the north allows more formation of Vitamin D on the skin and absorption to grow strong bones and wide hip structure conducive to easy delivery of live children. It probably did not take men too long to realize that fair, wide hipped ladies had a higher rate of successful births.

The strong political motive was, he was corrupt, and found guilty of corruption. The fact that he’s also a racist doesn’t seem to figure into any of the charges.
