Recommendation? Need a Really Comfortable Travel Car, Think Sofa, With Wheels.
Recent car history Mazda MPV 1998 back when it was a great vehicle Xterra Golf TDi Jeep Sahara Unlimited
Now I need a travelin' car. I would keep the Jeep but it is too noisy.
Stopped in at a Volvo dealership and tried a s60, too stiff a ride for long trips and not comfortable seats.
Any recommendations for a really comfortable car? Just for me and perhaps one other passenger and our luggage?
I am thinking of a 2015 or 2016. All wheel drive would be nice. A little retro would be fine too.
Any ideas?

“I have an 06 Grand Marquis”
It’s like riding in your living room. Heat the seats and you are in heaven.

Still a BIG car.

“The folks had a 74 LTD”
My brother had a 73 LTD. During the Minneapolis Blizzard of 1991-92 my brother let his LTD just sit in the yard. It got down to -20 for days and days. On Valentines Day, my brother shoveled 2 feet of snow off the car, got in, and she started up like nothing. Beautiful car.
One of my friends had a Dodge Polaris back in the 70s. We called it the Queen Mary,it was so damned hard to dock.
Mercedes AMG G-Wagon.
Check out the Lincoln LS...The 2006 and older, not the new MK...Lower mileage clean units can be had for 5-6K$ if you don’t mind looking around a bit...
Very nice quiet highway ride while still handling well..A road hugger with proper tires...Comfortable for 5, and big trunk...
3.9L V-8 and 5spd w/OD trans gives me 29 highway and 21 around town...Good road car...
I bet you could get a Ford 500 really really cheap. I have always thot the car offered considerable value, maybe it’s a step down from a Lincoln Town Car. But the model has AFAIK never taken off in terms of popularity. For what reason I don’t know, maybe the folks who want that really want a Town Car.
This isn’t a reco based upon personal experience of any kind other than visiting a car lot one day and thinking “holy crap, that’s cheap for that car”. It’s just a free idea tossed out there. Good luck!
Chevy Silverado. Lots of leg room, plenty of storage, 22 mpg hwy, I can drive 8 hrs before I have to stop for gas.
That’s right; they don’t make them any more. If you’re in the used car market, try a fairly late model Lincoln Navigator. I have a 2010 and it’s the kind of vehicle you’re looking for. Right now about 125,000 miles and been back and forth across the country a few times.
Single most comfortable car I've ever ridden in was a Daimler that was being used as a limo in Hong Kong. I wasn't driving - no way I'd ever drive in that madhouse anyway.
I'm running a Subaru WRX at the moment and just got back from a couple of six-hour drives to and from the eclipse totality zone. This would NOT be a car I'd recommend, it's sprung for racing and you feel the pavement because you're supposed to. Performance tires with hard sidewalls make it worse. Don't even.
Lincoln MKS or Cadillac CTS. The MKS Ecoboost has 300+ HP
“well obviously the sofa with wheels concept was not just mine alone!”
White mens do luv their comfort!
We have a 2000 Buick Park Avenue Ultra with 90K original miles and its a dreamboat. Full leather interior, heated seats and all the goodies - the Ultra edition has a supercharged V6 which gets 20+ mpg and scares rice rockets.
They stopped making that model in 2005, but nice ones can be bought for under 5K.
...
I’d like to know where.
Subaru Outback or Forester. Great cars. Even the back seats are comfy even for a heavy person on a long trip. Reliable and good mpg. Handles like a dream and can really move.
Mercedes S 550
or
Lexus LS 460
or
Toyota Avalon
Crown Vic or Grand Marquis, the most comfortable long range road car ever made.
They stopped making them in 2011.
Rear wheel drive - you can drive them in the snow but it takes some practice.
Chrysler 300C. Loaded, all wheel drive, like driving a cloud.
If you have leftists to run over it's the bomb !
What is your height?
