Voters Oppose Removing Confederate Monuments

Four Confederate monuments were removed from New Orleans earlier this month following complaints that they celebrate racism, and now the city of Baltimore has plans to follow suit. But most voters oppose taking away these remnants of the past even if they are unpopular with some.

While proposals have been made to get rid of monuments such as the Jefferson Memorial and the carving on Stone Mountain in Georgia because they honor men who practiced or defended slavery, just 19% of Likely U.S. Voters think the United States should erase symbols of its past history that are out of line with current sentiments. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 69% oppose erasing these historical symbols. Twelve percent (12%) are undecided.

The longer this stuff goes on the bigger the backlash. Approval for purging of history should take a super majority and not just a political hack listening to one side. Someone needs to remember this purging can work in many different ways and it will become a massive destabilizing influence.

I agree, that people who have the resources should try to save these statues and put them on private land.

So many beautiful works of art have been destroyed by the angry Muslims; and you would think that these home-grown idiots would have learned a lesson, if they have any understanding of the importance of history and art to the human condition. At least we still have pictures.

Even if you agree with the removal of Confederate statues you’d be deluding yourself if you think Ultra-Left fascists are going to stop with a just a few Civil War generals. They will eventually take down every statue of every great american on the grounds they are white and male.

Growing up I felt sorry for the people living in Russia. They only heard propaganda from their biased media, they didn’t have freedom of speech, religion was suppressed, and their history was distorted.
