The national movement to change racially offensive names of buildings, sports teams and landmarks will soon touch a group of schools in southeast Portland. Lynch Meadows, Lynch Wood and Lynch View elementary schools will shed their "Lynch" before the upcoming school year in response to growing concern about the word's racial connotations.
The schools, part of the Centennial School District, were named for the Lynch family, which donated land over a century ago to build the first of the schools. But Centennial Superintendent Paul Coakley says many newer families coming into the district associate the name with America's violent racial history.

The Superintendent should then EDUCATE the newcomers as to WHY the schools are named the way they are! Too bad the Lynch family didn’t have a reversionary clause that the schools ALWAYS be named for them - or the land reverts back to the family. (We have this requirement on land that is part of our church property.)

The school district no longer owns land donated by the Lynch family.
Yet the friggin writer goes into the Oregon history of lynchings of which the last one occurred 1902.
Oregon lynched more whites - 20, than blacks 1.

The names that are similar to the names of anyone who held slaves at any time in history must be removed from any buildings or streets or other public places. Names like Washington and Jefferson and Mohammed must be expunged. California, Oregon, and Washington should pass laws to outlaw those names and decree that everyone in the state who carries those names must change them. A new Bureau of Acceptable Names will assign the new surnames. Newborns’ names on birth certificates must be derived from a Bureau of Names list of non offending names.
