A gunman believed to be a supporter of former Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders sprayed a hail of bullets at a GOP baseball practice Wednesday morning, critically wounding House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and injuring four others before U.S. Capitol Police took down the rifle-wielding assailant.
Scalise was in critical condition Wednesday afternoon, MedStar Washington Hospital tweeted. He had surgery after being shot in the hip and was initially said to be stable.

In addition, the hospital where he was airlifted to is a Level One Trauma facility. They will be accustomed to dealing with multiple GSWs, bad auto accidents, etc.
For him to go from stable to critical is a serious downturn in his condition.
...Or a need for democrats to get one more seat the EASY way.

Possibly, but in a Level One TC, attendings would be looking for that, and ready to get in, or get back in to stop it. They probable see 10 GSWs a weekend.
Of course a complication can be, clamp the artery to save the Pt, but lose the leg in the process.

But I cannot contain my level of ire at the opening line to this story - BELIEVED to be a supporter of Bernie? Did the author and this crappy news station not SEE the perp’s facebook page?
I was concerned about that. There was a case I read one time in a book about miracles in the ER. This doctor said that there was a man who had been shot, and it appeared non life threatening. He told the man he’d have to have surgery and would then be good to go. The man told him he would not make it. The doctor pushed back and told him he would be find. The man again insisted he would make it. Right before surgery, the man said, “Not gonna make it doc.” The doctor discounted it as he thought the guy was just overly concerned. A couple hours later, he found out the man had died in surgery. He started bleeding and it wouldn’t stop. The man somehow knew it was his time.
Anyway, that story came to my mind today when they said that Scalise was talking and in stable condition. I heard on the radio before that he is now in critical condition, so that is concerning. I hope and pray he makes a full recovery. He’s a good man.
Seth Rich was reportedly taken to Medistar, sitting up, talking on the phone, only to die at a time later.
Many report this does not happen.
