Before heading off to his so-called "winter White House" in Palm Beach, Florida, on Friday, President Donald Trump summoned some of his senior staff to the Oval Office and went "ballistic," senior White House sources told ABC News.
The president erupted with anger over the latest slew of news reports connecting Russia with the new administration -- specifically the abrupt decision by Attorney General Jeff Sessions to recuse himself from investigations into Russian meddling in the 2016 campaign.
Sources said the president felt Sessions' recusal was unnecessary and only served to embolden Trump's political opponents. The attorney general made his announcement Thursday just as Trump returned to Washington from a trip to the U.S.S. Gerald Ford in Virginia for a speech about his agenda as president.
Hours earlier, aboard the ship, the president had told reporters that he had "total" confidence in Sessions and saw no reason why the attorney general should recuse himself.
We should have had a good week. We should have had a good weekend. But once again, back to Russia," a senior White House official said, expressing the frustration simmering in the West Wing following the news earlier in the week that Sessions failed to disclose during his confirmation process that he had met with the Russian ambassador twice during the election campaign. Sessions at the time was a senator on the Armed Services Committee and was also helping the Trump campaign.
Among those gathered in the Oval Office on Friday: Chief of staff Reince Priebus, chief strategist Stephen K. Bannon, White House Counsel Don McGahn, press secretary Sean Spicer, newly-hired Communications Director Mike Dubke, along with Trump son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner and his wife Ivanka Trump, the sources said.

Thank you!
I think he started plotting and war-gaming this in 2011 after the WH correspondents' shindig. That's a long time to gather intel on every single politician in DC, and he had the money and loyal resources to do it. He did not walk into this in 2015 blind. No way.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions is slated to attend a dinner with President Trump and other administration officials on Saturday night at the president's private Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, the White House said.
The dinner comes after reports that Trump was angry Sessions recused himself from any investigations into Russias interference in the U.S. presidential election.
Hi Nita! Great to see you here at FR. I remember your posts from 1998!
So what? What's relevant is what Sessions has not recused himself from.
That was not a tactical blunder, it was a strategic disaster for the Trump White House.
You should be paying attention to what LS has been reporting lately.
Trump is playing 3D chess while the Enemy is playing checkers. This has been evident for the last year or two.
So your outbreaks of hysterically simplistic "analysis" are both unfounded and counterproductive.
0bama has behaved far more criminally than Richard Nixon—as has Hillary and the entire corrupt Democrat and Media (but I repeat myself)— and that is what's about to become the focus of the People's anger, not Democrat wet dreams.
The Establishment is losing, and they're going to continue to lose. It's going to be a rough ride for the nervous nellies and the NeverTrumpers, but this President has the People behind him in this Revolution, and there's no way we can lose, unless we're all a bunch of cowards.
This Revolution will be won, one way or another. It may be that the Enemy will be able to influence somewhat the battlefield that this war will occur on.
As long as President Trump isn't a crook (and he isn't), and as long as the Democrat and Establishment continue acting like corrupt crooks (and they are), we will win this War.
The People are President Trump's trump card!
I think it goes back even further than that. He had a very brief run as a Reform Party candidate in the 2000 presidential election before he quit the race because he didn’t think a third-party candidate could ever win a presidential election.
It is not a question of whether there is any investigation going on. It is a question of how do we take the initiative and resolve the problem. Otherwise, America will be reading about this for the next 8 years and the issue might even find itself in the history books.
Why announce the appointment of a special prosecutor?
In order to provide the American public with an objective analysis and resolution of the allegations.
Imagine instead we were talking about AG Lynch. What would you want in such case? Would you be satisfied with Lynch or Obama saying, "The minute we are aware of any credible evidence we will start the process?"
Have a nice weekend.
He could't even recognize a perjury trap question by the moron actor. Doesn't instill a lot of confidence in me.
1. He recused himself from any current or future investigation of Russia's role in U.S. elections.
2. He also clearly stated that Justice Department protocols precluded him from even saying whether or not there is an ongoing investigation.
I put these two statements together and made the following determination:
There probably won't be an investigation of any substance at all, and the one guy who never has to explain why this is the case is Jeff Sessions.
"We should have had a good week. We should have had a good weekend. But once again, back to Russia," a senior White House official said, expressing the frustration simmering in the West Wing following the news earlier in the week that Sessions failed to disclose during his confirmation process that he had met with the Russian ambassador twice during the election campaign.
If what I suspect is true, then we should all be laughing our @sses off right now. I'll keep my eye on the news over the coming days and follow up with a detailed explanation if and when the time is right. LOL.
“senior White House sources told ABC News” = “unconfirmed, likely fabricated rumors” = fake news
“Well this article was written by ABC, take it for what its worth...”
I bet most of it is fake news.
Remember how we got Ford, first they took out Spiro Agnew. Pence is not immune.
Why would Sessions recuse himself from anything BEFORE discussing it with the Chief Executive?
Since when does he not. Ninety percent of the public service employees vote democratic, Obama does not have to order these things nor would he have anything on record if he did.
Yeah man that’s bad. He panicked when that #### Franken asked him the question. WHY would such a question be asked? We know why. Prove Franken knew ahead of time and indict him. On anything. I dont care anymore.
Sessions should have said “I dont recall. Do you recall everyone you’re met this year? And why does it matter or why would it be illegal?”
He could have said a MILLION things or a republican should have interjected.
GEEZ!!
I’m concerned about a few guys around him being a little too nice, naive or honorable.
Now is the time to have dirty fighters around you.
I KNOW they are not real conservatives, but Rudy and Christie would be wreaking HAVOC by now on the dems.
So the Jews wandering in the desert for 40 years was them helping themselves?
I think President Trump was disturbed that Sessions would ‘recuse’ but as far as what this article is talking about, President Trump doesn’t do that to people that work for him and he and Sessions have a solid friendship, so I can see President Trump being disappointed but not like this...
‘Very Fake News’ 101
If that is the case, it explains a lot. He was SO effusive in his praise of Trump after the election, after bashing him like crazy beforehand. Maybe he knew the fix was in.
