The Oroville Dam is the highest in the nation.
Uh oh. Someone who’s been keeping track of this and knows more than I do, please correct me if this is not the situation:
1. The main spillway was showing signs of erosion and they used the auxiliary spillway in addition to ease the pressure;
2. The auxiliary spillway is now showing signs of erosion and they opened the main one back up to ease that pressure.
3. Failure of the auxiliary spillway structure will result in no control whatever.
4. This would not constitute failure of the dam but would still be a very serious flooding situation.
5. The erosion in the main spillway is likely to get worse.
Is this the case? Could I get some expert comment, please?
I lived in Live Oak from 1984-1995...Downstream of Oroville Dam...I went up there a couple of times when they were releasing over 65k of water over the original spillway that now has a hole in it...When I read yesterday about that I thot dang if that Dam Fails its got 3 and half million acre feet of water it will flood thru oroville...Live oak and all th eway into downtown Sacratomato...Pray for those people below the dam!
Freegards

The Left will use this dam failure to push for NO NEW DAMS
I’ve worked controlling water for 40 years and there are 2 places to never build or buy a home.
In a floodplain...whether designated or not
And below a dam.
That being said, I hope every is safe they and get out while the gettin’s good. This is far from over, since the ground below the damaged spillway and below the emergency spillway is now saturated an likely unstable
Yup time to pray for those poor souls. It is going to blow. I looked at the spillway they were using before. 40 foot erosion if not more under the concrete spillway. It is way too close to the main damn too so it this goes the whole thing goes.
You are a loon.
If Jerry Brown needs money, let him sell some of his organs (e.g., kidneys, lungs, liver, heart, etc.)
That "solid earth" is being washed away

“You have to wonder just what these a$$holes have for brains.”
Their so called brains are nothing but bad science connected with Gorebull warming.
Big money down South probably told them not to release that water!
Your graph would show a 6th grader, that they needed to be releasing water like they did at Folsom last year.
That is horrible... I hope you are safe and same for all in harms way. I can’t even begin to imagine.. and the animals, too.
The emergency spillway for that dam is a few hundred yards to the northwest of the dam, over solid earth. Water over the spillway cannot cause the dam to fail.

The dam is not failing. The emergency spillway is failing. It says that pretty clear in the title.
“THIS IS NOT A DRILL. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. REPEAT THIS IS NOT A
DRILL.”
Damn...
SackoTomatoes!!!
That is Our Capital!!!
No expert comment, but here is a link to the National Weather Service alert, which says “dam failure.”
PING!
What is it? 210,000 acre feet of water above that dam? Thats a hell of a lot of water and it will go all the way to the ocean.
Trump's budget cuts, the forced expulsion of the gay Muslim Mexicans who maintained the dam, or global warming?
Or is this still due to Bush, since Nancy Pelosi just said there wasn't a single thing the Congressional Democrats could work with Bush on?
Thank you, sir.
